A Bioresorbable Neural Interface for On‐Demand Thermal Pain Block

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioresorbable, implantable neural electronics provide dynamic, on‐demand thermal modulation of peripheral nerves for safe, drug‐free pain relief. A microscale thin‐film heater and temperature sensor embedded within biodegradable encapsulants enable precise temperature control via real‐time feedback.

Food safety and GM crops implications for developing-country research [PDF]

open access: yes
"In the developing world the approval and cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops is largely limited to the commercial production of insect-resistant cotton in Argentina, China, India, Mexico, and South Africa....

The Failure of Federal Biotechnology Regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The recent court case and state ballot measures regarding mandatory labels for Genetically Modified Organisms (“GMOs”) suggest the need for a deeper conversation about the federal framework for regulating biotechnology.

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

The StarLink Case: Issues for the Future [PDF]

open access: yes
The disclosure in September 2000 that StarLink corn had been found in the human food supply putfood biotechnology in the public spotlight and caused concern among consumers and food systemstakeholders alike that a product approved only for animal use ...

Generation of an Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Alveolar Type II In Vitro Model to Study Influenza A Virus Infection and Drug Treatments

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) can be differentiated into alveolar type II cells (iAT2s), expanded as 3D alveolospheres, and grown at physiologically relevant air–liquid interface (ALI). This study shows for the first time the infectability of iAT2s by the influenza A virus (IAV) and proves their responsiveness to the well ...

GM CROPS AND THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS: A MINI OVERVIEW

open access: yesFUUAST Journal of Biology, 2018
Genetically modified crops have been included in the diet of people of some countries of the world due to food shortage problems. They are not being consumed in most of the countries of the world as people consider using them can prove to be harmful for

Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Scaffolds to Engineer the Dormant Landscape of Microscopic Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Decellularized liver extracellular matrix scaffolds provide a platform to study dormant liver‐metastatic colorectal cancer. They induce reversible dormancy, in combination with nutrient depletion and low dose chemotherapy, through cell cycle arrest and chemotherapy resistance.
