Effect of Auditory Cortex Deactivation on Stimulus-Specific Adaptation in the Medial Geniculate Body

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2011
An animal's survival may depend on detecting new events or objects in its environment, and it is likely that the brain has evolved specific mechanisms to detect such changes.

Increasing Incidence of Facial Nerve Disorders in the United States from 2007 to 2022

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 6, Page 2008-2013, June 2025.
In this study of national administrative claims data from 2007 to 2022, the mean annual incidence of facial nerve disorders was 30.5 cases per 100,000 adults. The mean annual incidence of Bell's palsy alone was found to be 24.5/100,000, with increasing annual incidence rates during the study period.

Efficient Visual Coding: From Retina To V2 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
The human visual system has a hierarchical structure consisting of layers of processing, such as the retina, V1, V2, etc. Understanding the functional roles of these visual processing layers would help to integrate the psychophysiological and neurophysiological models into a consistent theory of human vision, and would also provide insights to computer

Rules of Connectivity between Geniculate Cells and Simple Cells in Cat Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2001
Hundreds of thalamic axons ramify within a column of cat visual cortex; yet each layer 4 neuron receives input from only a fraction of them. We have examined the specificity of these connections by recording simultaneously from layer 4 simple cells and ...

A comparative study between one-factor-at-a-time and minimum runs resolution-IV methods for enhancing the production of polysaccharide by Stenotrophomonas daejeonensis and Pseudomonas geniculate

open access: yesAnnals of Agricultural Sciences, 2018
Two bacterial strains were isolated from compost sample from Egypt and identified based on morphological and molecular characteristics using 16S rRNA sequence as Stenotrophomonas daejeonensis B14 and Pseudomonas geniculate Y8.

Spindle oscillations are generated in the dorsal thalamus and modulated by the thalamic reticular nucleus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Spindle waves occur during the early stage of slow wave sleep and are thought to arise in the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), causing inhibitory postsynaptic potential spindle-like oscillations in the dorsal thalamus that are propagated to the cortex ...

A comparison of Euclidean metrics and their application in statistical inferences in the spike train space [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Statistical analysis and inferences on spike trains are one of the central topics in neural coding. It is of great interest to understand the underlying distribution and geometric structure of given spike train data. However, a fundamental obstacle is that the space of all spike trains is not an Euclidean space, and non-Euclidean metrics have been ...

Correlated Size Variations in Human Visual Cortex, Lateral Geniculate Nucleus, and Optic Tract

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 1997
We have examined several components of the human visual system to determine how the dimensions of the optic tract, lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN), and primary visual cortex (V1) vary within the same brain.
