Haemangiomas of the Geniculate Ganglion

Acta Otorrinolaringologica (English Edition), 2007
About 60 cases have been published since Pulec first described hemangiomas of the geniculate ganglion. They usually cause facial weakness even when they are very small. In cases of insidious evolution of facial paralysis, MRI, and CT are very helpful to rule out these tumors.

Spatial and chromatic interactions in the lateral geniculate body of the rhesus monkey.

Journal of Neurophysiology, 1966
THE RECEPTORS AND NERVE CELLS that make up the visual pathway must convey and interpret information on both the form and the color of retinal images. In higher mammals little is known about the degree to which nerve cells are specialized for handling ...

EFFECTS OF VISUAL DEPRIVATION ON MORPHOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF CELLS IN THE CATS LATERAL GENICULATE BODY.

Journal of Neurophysiology, 1963
THEIMPORTANCEOFNORMALSENSORYSTIMULATION inthedevelopment and maintenance of the nervous system is now generally recognized. In the visual system this problem has usually been approached by examining the effects of sensory deprivation on structure and ...

Geniculate Ganglion Anatomy for the Otologist

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1969
THE greater (superficial) petrosal nerve and the geniculate ganglion are major anatomic landmarks in the surgical approach to the internal auditory canal through the middle cranial fossa. 1 The dura is elevated from the superior surface of the temporal bone through a craniectomy just above the root of the zygomatic process.

Lateral Geniculate Nucleus in Glaucoma

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1993
To assess glaucomatous damage to the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus, as well as to its magnocellular and parvocellular layers, we examined the autopsy sections of the lateral geniculate nucleus of individuals with and without glaucoma.

Photic sensitivity of geniculate neurons that project to the suprachiasmatic nuclei or the contralateral geniculate

Brain Research, 1989
We applied tests of antidromic activation to identify cells in the hamster intergeniculate leaflet (IGL) that project to either the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) or the contralateral IGL. IGL cells projecting to these targets were tested for photic responses; most showed sustained activation, while a few were suppressed by retinal illumination ...

THE SYMPTOM-COMPLEX OF THE ACUTE POSTERIOR POLIOMYELITIS OF THE GENICULATE, AUDITORY, GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL AND PNEUMOGASTRIC GANGLIA

, 1910
In previous communications1 I have already elaborated in some detail the symptomatology and complications of the posterior poliomyelitis of the geniculate ganglion of the facial nerve; a syndrome which is characterized by herpes zoster oticus, facial ...

TRUE TIC DOULOUREUX OF THE SENSORY FILAMENTS OF THE FACIAL NERVE: I. CLINICAL REPORT OF A CASE IN WHICH CURE WAS EFFECTED BY PHYSIOLOGIC EXTIRPATION OF THE GENICULATE GANGLION II. REPORT OF SURGICAL TREATMENT

, 1909
I. CLINICAL REPORT AND REMARKS BY DR. CLARK It has been fairly well proved by recent investigation that the facial nerve, like the trifacial, is a mixed nerve. Its sensory ganglion is the geniculate.

Neurotrophin receptors in the geniculate ganglion

Molecular Brain Research, 1999
We examined the distribution of the high affinity neurotrophin receptors (trkA, trkB, and trkC) in the rat geniculate ganglion. Previous work had shown that during early (prenatal) development, trkB and its two ligands, BDNF and NT-4/5, were most important for survival of almost all neurons.

Surgical Anatomy Of The Geniculate Ganglion

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1975
The position and the average dimensions of the geniculate ganglion have been measured with the Zeiss screw micrometer in 24 temporal bones obtained from the histological collection of the ENT department of the University of Zurich. The geniculate ganglion has been found to lie like a cup over the anterior portion of the genu of the VII nerve.
