Increase in accuracy using multi-trait genomic breeding value estimation

Advances in Animal Biosciences, 2010
Introduction Genomic selection is becoming common practice in animal breeding. It uses genome-wide dense marker maps, to accurately predict the genetic ability of animals, without the need to record phenotypic performance from the animal itself or from close relatives.

Genomic heritabilities and genomic estimated breeding values for methane traits in Angus cattle.

Journal of animal science, 2016
Enteric methane emissions from beef cattle are a significant component of total greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture. The variation between beef cattle in methane emissions is partly genetic, whether measured as methane production, methane yield (methane production/DMI), or residual methane production (observed methane production - expected ...

Practical Workflow from High-Throughput Genotyping to Genomic Estimated Breeding Values (GEBVs)

2020
The global climate is changing, resulting in significant economic losses worldwide. It is thus necessary to speed up the plant selection process, especially for complex traits such as biotic and abiotic stresses. Nowadays, genomic selection (GS) is paving new ways to boost plant breeding, facilitating the rapid selection of superior genotypes based on ...

Genomic estimated breeding values for bovine respiratory disease resistance in Angus feedlot cattle

Journal of Animal Science
Abstract Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) causes major losses in feedlot cattle worldwide. A genetic component for BRD resistance in feedlot cattle and calves has been reported in a number of studies, with heritabilities ranging from 0.04 to 0.2. These results suggest selection could be used to reduce the incidence of BRD.
