Putative Analogs of Pyrite Suns Forming in Proglacial Alaska Mudflats

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Disc‐shaped pyrite suns of the Pennsylvanian age Anna Shale are thought to have formed where pressure restricted pyrite crystal growth to a flattened disc shape during diagenesis at the Anna Shale and the underlying Herrin coal boundary.

In Silico Modeling of Geobacter Species. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This project employed a combination of in silico modeling and physiological studies to begin the construction of models that could predict the activity of Geobacter species under different environmental conditions. A major accomplishment of the project was the development of the first genome-based models of organisms known environmental relevance. This

Rapid Biocathode Start-Up with Mixed Methanogenic–Electroactive Inocula for Enhanced Bioelectrochemical Performance

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study explores the use of a pre-acclimated Geobacter-enriched inoculum as a novel strategy to accelerate the start-up of biocathodes. Unlike conventional inoculation with broad-spectrum communities, the proposed inoculum combines a long-term ...

Divergent Responses of Bacterial Communities to Permafrost Degradation and Their Associations With Carbon Across Vertical Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 23, 23 April 2026.
Bacterial α‐diversity decreases, but stochasticity and community stability increase across the 15 m‐depth vertical profiles and along the degraded gradient within the active layer. The abundance and interaction of core taxa mainly control community stability in the active and permafrost layers, respectively.

Nanoelectronic Investigation Reveals the Electrochemical Basis of Electrical Conductivity in Shewanella and Geobacter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The electrical conductivity measured in Shewanella and Geobacter spp. is an intriguing physical property that is the fundamental basis for possible extracellular electron transport (EET) pathways. There is considerable debate regarding the origins of the

Advancement in Anaerobic Digestion for Scaling‐Up Biogas Production Through Food Waste Valorization

open access: yesChemBioEng Reviews, Volume 13, Issue 2, April 2026.
The review article begins with an introduction that covers the overview, food waste (FW) classification, and the steps involved in producing biogas through anaerobic digestion (AD). Following that, it describes the process for producing biogas, including single‐, two‐, and multistage systems, mesophilic and thermophilic digestion, and wet and dry ...
