b‐Values of Large Earthquake Sequences Depend on Their Mainshock Location
Abstract We evaluate four hypotheses regarding b‐values in large earthquake sequences using the Japanese earthquake catalog: H1 ${\mathcal{H}}_{1}$: Around large earthquakes, b‐values vary more than expected at random. H2 ${\mathcal{H}}_{2}$: b‐values decrease prior to large earthquakes.

Abstract To explore mechanisms of rupture segmentation, we invert coseismic GNSS offsets for the 2025 Mw 7.6 Aomori, Japan earthquake. Our preferred curved‐fault solution images a compact thrust rupture at 25–50 km depth with peak slip ∼2.5 m near 35 km.
