Apriori Estimates of the Solution of the Geodetic Boundary Value Problem

1998
The purpose of this paper is to discuss an apriori estimate (bound) for the disturbing potential and its part representing higher degree harmonic components. The disturbing potential is treated as a solution of the geodetic boundary value problem and the estimates are considered in terms of the norm assigned to Lebesgue’s space of square integrable ...

Finite element method for solving geodetic boundary value problems

Journal of Geodesy, 2009
The goal of this paper is to present the finite element scheme for solving the Earth potential problems in 3D domains above the Earth surface. To that goal we formulate the boundary-value problem (BVP) consisting of the Laplace equation outside the Earth accompanied by the Neumann as well as the Dirichlet boundary conditions (BC).

Solving geodetic boundary value problems with parallel computers

2005
In the last years modern mathematical methods for the solution of boundary value problems (BVPs) attracted much interest in Geodesy, namely the finite difference method (FDM), the finite element method (FEM), and the boundary element method (BEM). They are able to solve general linear BVPs directly, i.e. up to any desired numerical precision.

A general least-squares solution of the geodetic boundary value problem

2000
A general least squares solution is derived for a whole class of GBVPs in spherical, constant radius approximation by means of a transformation to the spectrum. For a number of GBVPs the kernels providing the solution can be exactly computed and are shown here as examples.

Solution of the geodetic boundary value problem in spectral form

1995
Proceeding from the earlier constructed solution of the scalar free boundary value problem (BVP) for the Earth’s potential, several kinds of new formulas are presented for the spectral characteristics of the geopotential. An explicit analytical formula is derived for a geopotential harmonic coefficient as a function of the surface gravity anomaly ...

On an O(N) algorithm for the solution of geodetic boundary value problems

2000
We study a fast algorithm for the solution of geodetic boundary value problems. The algorithm uses basis functions that ideally localize in space. It can handle any smooth enough boundary surface and does not require spherical and constant radius approximation. It solves a problem with N unknowns in O(N) operations up to some logarithmic terms.

On the Use of Galerkin’s Method in the Solution of the Geodetic Boundary Value Problem

2001
A generalized formulation of the geodetic boundary value problem and the concept of its weak solution were the starting point of this paper. The construction of a bilinear form connected with the problem in question was discussed and associated functional-analytic aspects reviewed.
