Quality and Conservation of Riparian Forest in a Mountain Subtropical Basin of Argentina

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ecology, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
The aims of this work were to describe the conservation status of riparian forests located in a mountain subtropical basin of Tucumán province, Argentina, and assess how the quality of riparian forests is related with altitude, plant species richness, proportion of exotic species, and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in adjacent rivers.

Broad Protein Spectrum in Stored Pollen of Three Stingless Bees from the Chaco Dry Forest in South America (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini) and Its Ecological Implications

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Protein content of pollen stored by three meliponine species was variable from 9.78% (less than half the value considered as optimal to brood development in Apis mellifera) in type Capparis tweediana‐C. speciosa to more than 26% in type Maytenus vitis-idaea and some Prosopis samples.

Saltcedar (Tamarix ramosissima) Invasion Alters Decomposer Fauna and Plant Litter Decomposition in a Temperate Xerophytic Deciduous Forest

open access: yesAdvances in Ecology, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Plant invasions may alter the soil system by changing litter quality and quantity, thereby affecting soil community and ecosystem processes. We investigated the effect of Tamarix ramosissima invasion on the decomposer fauna and litter decomposition process, as well as the importance of litter quality in decomposition.

New Data on Food Consumption in Pre‐Hispanic Populations from Northwest Argentina (ca. 1000–1550 A.D.): The Contribution of Carbon and Nitrogen Isotopic Composition of Human Bones

open access: yesJournal of Anthropology, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
We present data on carbon and nitrogen isotopic composition of human bones from Tolombón (Calchaqui Valley, Salta) and Esquina de Huajra (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy) sites located in Northwest Argentina (NWA). Both are complex archaeological residential settlements ascribed to the Regional Development Period (ca.

Orphan crops of archaeology‐based crop history research

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 3, Page 562-589, May 2025.
Agrobiodiversity is central to sustainable farming worldwide. Cultivation, conservation and reintroduction of diverse plant species, including ‘forgotten’ and ‘underutilized’ crops, contribute to global agrobiodiversity, living ecosystems and sustainable food production.

Exergetic Model of Secondary Successions for Plant Communities in Arid Chaco (Argentina)

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Ecosystems are open systems where energy fluxes produce modifications over plant communities. According to the state and transition model, plant formations are defined by changes in natural conditions and disturbs. Based on these changes, it is possible to define vectors that show the tendencies of the communities towards other states.

Molinaʼs species of Lucuma: neotypifications and nomenclatural implications

open access: yesGayana: Botanica, 2021
The story of the life and botanical contributions of Juan Ignacio Molina (1740-1829), “the first Chilean scientist”, are briefly outlined. The generic name Lucuma is considered to be validly published by Molina in 1782, and the identities of the five ...

Large‐scale facilitative effects for a single nurse shrub: Impact of the rainfall gradient, plant community and distribution across a geographical barrier

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 2, Page 233-245, February 2024.
The effect of a single key shrub that acts as a nurse species is dependent on its distribution range. The co‐inhabiting plant communities and the environment of the distribution range, exemplified in this study through the rainfall gradients, shape the final effect of the shrub.
