Comparison of gravimetric geoids with Geos 3 altimetric geoid
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1979By means of 1° × 1° gravimetric geoids in the North Atlantic, Northwest Pacific, and Indian oceans, comparisons have been made with Geos 3 radar altimeter estimates of geoid height. Most commonly, there are constant offsets and long‐wavelength discrepancies between the two data sets; there are many probable causes, including radial orbit error, scale ...

Il testo sviluppa con completezza gli argomenti classici e moderni relativi alla determinazione del geoide in geodesia fisica. Il testo è diviso in tre parti, dai titoli "Theory", "Methods and Applications" e "Advanced Analysis Methods". Fernando Sansò è autore della prima (da pag.3 a pag. 256) e della terza parte (da pag. 547 a pag. 704).

Modern geoid computation uses a global gravity model, such as EGM96, as a third component in a remove–restore process. The classical approach uses only two: the reference ellipsoid and a geometrical model representing the topography. The rationale for all three components is reviewed, drawing attention to the much smaller precision now needed when ...

Based on the formalism of General Relativity, we analyze generalizations of concepts used in conventional geodesy. One such concept is the Earth's geoid. We present our definition of the relativistic geoid in terms of the level sets of a time-independent redshift potential. Such a potential exists for any congruence of Killing observers, i.e.

Abstract This paper describes the determination of the geoid in Australia relative to the Australian Geodetic Datum by the method of astro-geodetic levelling. Gravity observations have been used to fill in detail, but the gravity results everywhere have been adjusted to the astro-geodetic framework. A preliminary geoid has been calculated for Papua and

This paper represents a milestone in the UNB effort to formulate an accurate and self-consistent theory for regional geoid determination. To get the geoid to a sub-centimetre accuracy, we had to formulate the theory in a spherical rather than linear approximation, advance the modelling of the effect of topographic mass density, formulate the solid ...
