Internet geolocation

ACM Computing Surveys, 2009
Internet geolocation technology aims to determine the physical (geographic) location of Internet users and devices. It is currently proposed or in use for a wide variety of purposes, including targeted marketing, restricting digital content sales to authorized jurisdictions, and security applications such as reducing credit card fraud.

Whois Based Geolocation: A Strategy to Geolocate Internet Hosts

2010 24th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications, 2010
There are several strategies in the literature to geolocate Internet hosts, however the accuracy of their estimates is a common issue. Furthermore, accurate Internet host location remains a challenge due to incomplete domain registers. In this paper, we propose a classification for geolocation strategies and present the Whois Based Geolocation (WBG ...

Single Platform Geolocation

2020 28th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2020
In this paper, geolocation study on an aerial platform with multiple antenna structures using the angle of arrival (AOA) and frequency of arrival (FOA) informations is presented. In this study, performances of least squares estimation (LSE), angle of arrival maximum likelihood estimation (AOA MLE), angle of arrival-frequency of arrival maximum ...

Portuguese geolocated tweets

Proceedings of the International Conference on Information Systems and Design of Communication, 2014
This paper describes an existing database of geolocated tweets that were produced in Portuguese regions. The existing database was collected during eight consecutive days and contains about 307K tweets, produced by about 11K different users. A detailed analysis on the content of the messages suggests a predominance of teenagers and young adult authors ...

Radio interferometric geolocation

Proceedings of the 3rd international conference on Embedded networked sensor systems, 2005
We present a novel radio interference based sensor localization method for wireless sensor networks. The technique relies on a pair of nodes emitting radio waves simultaneously at slightly different frequencies. The carrier frequency of the composite signal is between the two frequencies, but has a very low frequency envelope.

Spring-based geolocation

2012 IEEE Network Operations and Management Symposium, 2012
Given an IP address, it is a challenging task to obtain its geographic location. Besides approaches which associate coordinates with IP addresses in a predominantly static way, there are also measurement based approaches that exploit the correlation between the propagation delay of signals and round trip times of probe packets.

HTML5 Geolocation API

2011
Wouldn’t it be great if a web application just knew where you are located? Imagine being able to search information specific to your current location—where are the closest restaurants, which of your friends are nearby, what is the traffic situation like for your town⋯

Correlation interferometer geolocation

2006 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2006
Geolocation solutions based on the correlation interferometer geolocation (CIGL) equation depend on searching over (x/sup i/,y/sup i/) space and identifying the transmitter location as the (x,y) value that maximizes the correlation value. Under cross-polarized incident field conditions this correlation depends on both the array manifold calibration ...
