How True are Geological Maps? An Exercise in Geological Mapping
Journal of Geoscience Education, 2008This paper describes a student exercise in mapping, designed to highlight the fact that maps within the field of Earth Sciences (geological, geophysical etc) are most often made from sparsely and spatially non-uniformly distributed data implying that the final products depend both on sampling strategies and interpretation.

The influence of map scale on engineering geologic mapping
Bulletin of the International Association of Engineering Geology, 1976Various engineering geologic maps ranging from statewide to local site studies have been developed during recent years in Missouri for land-use planning purposes. Because this work has been initiated at the request of and with the support of various regional planning agencies, the scope and content of these maps has varied greatly.
