Correlation‐based modeling and separation of geomagnetic field components [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2016
AbstractWe introduce a technique for the modeling and separation of geomagnetic field components that is based on an analysis of their correlation structures alone. The inversion is based on a Bayesian formulation, which allows the computation of uncertainties.

Modeling radiation belt radial diffusion in ULF wave fields: 1. Quantifying ULF wave power at geosynchronous orbit in observations and in global MHD model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
[1] To provide critical ULF wave field information for radial diffusion studies in the radiation belts, we quantify ULF wave power (f = 0.5–8.3 mHz) in GOES observations and magnetic field predictions from a global magnetospheric model.

Sensory Biology of the Franciscana (Pontoporia blainvillei, Pontoporiidae, Cetartiodactyla): Ontogenetic Modifications of Vibrissae and Vibrissal Crypts

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The transition of cetaceans from a terrestrial to an aquatic environment involved a crucial sensory adaptation to environments with limited visibility. Vibrissae, important mechanoreceptors, undergo an ontogenetic transformation in odontocetes. This research describes the histomorphology of vibrissae and crypts at different developmental stages ...

Drilling the Marathousa palaeo‐lake in Greece (Peloponnese): inferring the environmental context of a Middle Pleistocene archaeological site

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The Megalopolis Basin is located in the central Peloponnese (Greece), a region that is situated along one of the primary Pleistocene biogeographical corridors for intracontinental hominin migration. The basin comprises several hundred metres of Plio‐Pleistocene sediments alternating between clastics and lignites.

Katz Fractal Dimension of Geoelectric Field during Severe Geomagnetic Storms

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
We are concerned with the time series resulting from the computed local horizontal geoelectric field, obtained with the aid of a 1-D layered Earth model based on local geomagnetic field measurements, for the full solar magnetic cycle of 1996–2019 ...

A supramolecular assembly of cone‐specific G‐protein and cryptochrome 4a on lipid bilayer

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Immobilized phospholipid bilayers on a sensor chip surface serve as membrane platform to investigate critical protein–lipid and protein–protein interaction processes by surface plasmon resonance. The putative magnetoreceptor cryptochrome 4a and the myristoylated cone‐specific G‐protein α‐subunit (Gtα) bind with high affinity to immobilized lipid ...

Fish welfare in a changing world: New developments and current challenges

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The welfare of non‐human animals is central to ethical discussions on animal use, with increasing attention to fish welfare across research, aquaria, aquaculture, and fisheries. This paper reviews current theoretical approaches to animal welfare and recent advances in defining and assessing fish welfare since the seminal paper by Huntingford ...

Forecasting the geomagnetic activity of the Dst Index using radial basis function networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The Dst index is a key parameter which characterises the disturbance of the geomagnetic field in magnetic storms. Modelling of the Dst index is thus very important for the analysis of the geomagnetic field.

The nature of the highest energy cosmic rays [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Ultra high energy gamma rays produce electron--positron pairs in interactions on the geomagnetic field. The pair electrons suffer magnetic bremsstrahlung and the energy of the primary gamma ray is shared by a bunch of lower energy secondaries.

Improved construction method for regional geomagnetic benchmark map based on Taylor polynomial modeling

open access: yesShenzhen Daxue xuebao. Ligong ban
To address the issues of limited accuracy and poor adaptability in the traditional geomagnetic benchmark map modeling, we propose a construction method for regional geomagnetic benchmark map based on Taylor polynomial expansion.
