Kalmag: a high spatio-temporal model of the geomagnetic field

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2022
Abstract We present the extension of the Kalmag model, proposed as a candidate for IGRF-13, to the twentieth century. The dataset serving its derivation has been complemented by new measurements coming from satellites, ground-based observatories and land, marine and airborne surveys.

Geochronological reconstruction of the Lateglacial deglaciation in the Arve Valley (Northern French Alps)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The timing and spatial patterns of glaciers retreat in the Northern French Alps during the Lateglacial (19.0–11.7 ka) remain debated, reflecting discrepancies among available chronological data sets. The complex interactions between major glaciers, such as the Rhône and Arve glaciers to the north and the Isère glacier to the south, represent a

Shining light on the aurora's contributions to people: A qualitative study of the aurora borealis in Greenland

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract The aurora borealis (northern lights) is an abiotic natural phenomenon that contributes to human well‐being. There is currently a significant research gap in primary qualitative valuation of the aurora's links to people. This exploratory qualitative study applies the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES ...

Katz Fractal Dimension of Geoelectric Field during Severe Geomagnetic Storms

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
We are concerned with the time series resulting from the computed local horizontal geoelectric field, obtained with the aid of a 1-D layered Earth model based on local geomagnetic field measurements, for the full solar magnetic cycle of 1996–2019 ...

Correlation‐based modeling and separation of geomagnetic field components [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2016
AbstractWe introduce a technique for the modeling and separation of geomagnetic field components that is based on an analysis of their correlation structures alone. The inversion is based on a Bayesian formulation, which allows the computation of uncertainties.

FLSea: Underwater Visual–Inertial and Stereovision Forward‐Looking Data Sets

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Visibility underwater is challenging and degrades as the distance between the subject and the camera increases. That is why forward‐looking underwater computer vision tasks are difficult. We have collected underwater forward‐looking stereovision and visual–inertial image sets using two underwater imaging platforms, a stereo camera rig, and an ...

Intensity of the geomagnetic field in Europe for the last 3 ka: Influence of data quality on geomagnetic field modeling

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2014
One of the main challenges of paleomagnetic research is to obtain high‐resolution geomagnetic field intensity reconstructions. For the last millennia, these reconstructions are mostly based on archeomagnetic data.

Sensory Biology of the Franciscana (Pontoporia blainvillei, Pontoporiidae, Cetartiodactyla): Ontogenetic Modifications of Vibrissae and Vibrissal Crypts

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The transition of cetaceans from a terrestrial to an aquatic environment involved a crucial sensory adaptation to environments with limited visibility. Vibrissae, important mechanoreceptors, undergo an ontogenetic transformation in odontocetes. This research describes the histomorphology of vibrissae and crypts at different developmental stages ...

Improved construction method for regional geomagnetic benchmark map based on Taylor polynomial modeling

open access: yesShenzhen Daxue xuebao. Ligong ban
To address the issues of limited accuracy and poor adaptability in the traditional geomagnetic benchmark map modeling, we propose a construction method for regional geomagnetic benchmark map based on Taylor polynomial expansion.
