Kalmag: a high spatio-temporal model of the geomagnetic field

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2022
Abstract We present the extension of the Kalmag model, proposed as a candidate for IGRF-13, to the twentieth century. The dataset serving its derivation has been complemented by new measurements coming from satellites, ground-based observatories and land, marine and airborne surveys.

Stochastic forecasting of the geomagnetic field from the COV-OBS.x1 geomagnetic field model, and candidate models for IGRF-12 [PDF]

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2015
We present the geomagnetic field model COV-OBS.x1, covering 1840 to 2020, from which have been derived candidate models for the IGRF-12. Towards the most recent epochs, it is primarily constrained by first differences of observatory annual means and measurements from the Oersted, Champ, and Swarm satellite missions.

Geomagnetic Main-Field Modelling with POGS Satellite Data

open access: yesJournal of geomagnetism and geoelectricity, 1997
Models of the geomagnetic main field of degree and order 13 are constructed for epoch 1992.5. These are based on combinations of (quiet-time, low activity) Polar Orbiting Geomagnetic Survey (POGS) total intensity data, and various near-surface, largely vector, measurements.

The CHAOS-8 geomagnetic field model

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
Abstract We present CHAOS-8, an extension of the CHAOS field model series that describes the time-dependent near-Earth geomagnetic field, valid from 1999 to 2025. It is estimated from magnetic measurements collected by multiple low-earth-orbit satellites, such as CHAMP and Swarm

O regionalnom modeliranju geomagnetskog glavnog polja

open access: yesGeofizika, 2007

Models of Present and Past Geomagnetic Core Field Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal Of The Geological Society Of India
ABSTRACT The main geomagnetic field originates in Earth’s outer core and shields our habitat against solar wind and cosmic radiation. Global descriptions of the field evolution are provided by data-based models. Such models are available for time spans from a few years to the past 100 kyr and some geomagnetic field polarity excursions ...

Pymaginverse: A python package for global geomagnetic field modeling [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Computing and Geosciences
Data-based geomagnetic models are key for mapping the global field, predicting the movement of magnetic poles, understanding the complex processes happening in the outer core, and describing the global expression of magnetic field reversals. There exists a wide range of models, which differ in a priori assumptions and methods for the interpolation of ...

On regional modelling of the main geomagnetic field [PDF]

open access: yesGeofizika, 2007
In this study I applied Spherical Cap Harmonic Analyses, SCHA, with physical regularization (Korte and Holme, 2003) to synthetic series obtained from the Comprehensive model CM4 (Sabaka et al., 2004), at 46 European observatory locations and additionally 11 'virtual observatories' chosen to improve the initial data distribution. The main purpose was to

A Hierarchical Bayesian Model for the Global Holocene Geomagnetic Field

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth
Abstract We present a hierarchical Bayesian model of the global geomagnetic field for the last 8,000 years. The model is built solely with thermoremanent records, which include archeomagnetic and volcanic data. Building upon previous work, this model includes fewer approximations and treats model hyperparameters as probabilistic ...
