Geomagnetic Main-Field Modelling with POGS Satellite Data

open access: yesJournal of geomagnetism and geoelectricity, 1997
Models of the geomagnetic main field of degree and order 13 are constructed for epoch 1992.5. These are based on combinations of (quiet-time, low activity) Polar Orbiting Geomagnetic Survey (POGS) total intensity data, and various near-surface, largely vector, measurements.

LiveWire: Horizontal Geoelectric Field Prediction With 1‐hr Lead‐Time Using Multi‐Fidelity Boosted Neural Networks

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation
Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) are electrical currents generated by rapid changes in the geomagnetic field during space weather events, posing risks to power grids and pipelines.

Modeling the geomagnetic field over Croatia

open access: yesGeofizika, 2011
During the last years investigation of the geomagnetic field in Croatia has started and an effort to establish the geomagnetic observatory has been made. Based on the total field measured over the northern eastern part of Croatia, the suitable position for installing the geomagnetic observatory is proposed.

Candidate geomagnetic field models for IGRF-14 and secular acceleration since 2020

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
IGRF-14 is the fourteenth generation of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF), a spherical harmonic model of Earth’s main magnetic field and its secular variation, developed through international collaboration under the auspices of the ...

Modeling regionally the geomagnetic field

open access: yes, 2003
The geomagnetic field above the Earth's surface in current free region may be expressed as the gradient of a scalar potential solving Laplace equation. For regions with a fairly dense coverage of data at different altitudes, a regional model ought to offer a better spatial resolution of the regional field over the volume under study than a global field

Short-term prediction of geomagnetic secular variation with an echo state network

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
A technique for predicting the secular variation (SV) of the geomagnetic field based on the echo state network (ESN) model is proposed. SV is controlled by the geodynamo process in the Earth’s outer core, and modeling its nonlinear behaviors can be ...

Preface to the Special Issue of Initial Scientific Results of MSS-1

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics
The scientific research of geomagnetism has been largely driven by new geomagnetic data that are available to scientists. Macau Science Satellite-1 (MSS-1) was successfully launched on 21st May 2023 into a near-circular orbit of altitude of about 450 km ...

Mapping Geoelectric Field Hazards in Ireland

open access: yesSpace Weather
Geoelectric fields are generated at the Earth's surface and can lead to the induction of hazardous geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) in infrastructure like power grids, railways and pipelines during geomagnetic storms.

Second generation of CSES global geomagnetic field model (CGGM-2) and associated candidate models for IGRF-14

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
This paper presents the second generation of the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES) Global Geomagnetic Field Model (CGGM-2), specifically designed to derive candidate models for the fourteenth generation of the International Geomagnetic ...

Multi-process driven unusually large equatorial perturbation electric fields during the April 2023 geomagnetic storm

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
The low latitude ionosphere and thermosphere are strongly disturbed during and shortly after geomagnetic storms. We use novel Jicamarca radar measurements, ACE satellite solar wind, and SuperMAG geomagnetic field observations to study the electrodynamic ...
