GEOMETRIC CONSTRUCTION OF PERIODIC TRAJECTORIES

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2007
Abstract In this paper a method for generating periodic trajectories to a class of Hamiltonian systems is presented. A periodic Hamiltonian system will be defined as the target equilibrium for systems in strict feedback form. Parameter dependent nonlinear oscillation is introduced in a two dimensional subsystem and extended to higher dimensions using

Geometric Performance Analysis of Periodic Behavior

Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, 1996
A fundamental problem in designing parallel programs is the ability to exactly analyze program performance, given a specification of the process synchronization structure and the execution timings of all code segments. This paper derives, for two process programs that synchronize for mutual exclusion only, a representation of all possible periodic ...

Ultrasonic geometrical characterization of periodically corrugated surfaces

Ultrasonics, 2013
Accurate characterization of the characteristic dimensions of a periodically corrugated surface using ultrasonic imaging technique is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The possibility of accurately characterizing the characteristic dimensions is discussed.

Geometric Aspects of Spatially Periodic Interfacial Waves

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1994
Periodic waves at the interface between two inviscid fluids of differing densities are considered from a geometric point of view. A new Hamiltonian formulation is used in the analysis and restriction of the Hamiltonian structure to space‐periodic functions leads to an O‐invariant Hamiltonian system.

A geometric approach to fault detection of periodic systems

2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2007
Using the geometric approach, a solution is given to the problem of detecting faults in linear periodic discrete- time systems. The existing conditions are provided in terms of the new geometric notion of outer observable subspace. Making use of this notion, a residual generator is developed, such that the residual is made independent of unknown input ...

Geometric resonance in a periodic waveguide

Journal of Applied Physics, 2003
The geometric resonance has been predicted in a planar periodically corrugated waveguide. It is shown that for a change in thickness of the waveguide, at some of its values, one of the cutoff frequencies splits into two, separated by the forbidden gap, while other cutoff frequencies experience only slight shifts due to the periodicity.

A geometric model for the periodic undulation of a confined adhesive crack

Soft Matter, 2016
Inspired by experiments on the instability of confined interfacial cracks, we construct a minimal mathematical model based on symmetry arguments that can reproduce the form of the crack front in a confined domain. We show that the model can be interpreted in terms of the buckling and post-buckling response of a compressed elastica with a nonuniform ...
