Topology of Geometric Joins [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete & Computational Geometry, 2015
We consider the geometric join of a family of subsets of the Euclidean space. This is a construction frequently used in the (colorful) Carath odory and Tverberg theorems, and their relatives. We conjecture that when the family has at least $d+1$ sets, where $d$ is the dimension of the space, then the geometric join is contractible.

A geometric method in differential topology [PDF]

open access: goldBulletin of the American Mathematical Society, 1962
with the appropriate identification of boundaries, a new manifold Mi is obtained, which can also be made differentiable by a suitable smoothing operation. The manifold M% is said to be obtained from Mi by a spherical modification. A familiar example of this process is obtained by taking Mi to be the hyperboloid of two sheets x2 —y2 — z2 = 1 and Mi to ...

Combinatorial and geometric methods in topology [PDF]

open access: greenMilan Journal of Mathematics, 2007
Starting from the (apparently) elementary problem of deciding how many different topological spaces can be obtained by gluing together in pairs the faces of an octahedron, we will describe the central role played by hyperbolic geometry within three-dimensional topology.

Quantum geometric bounds in spinful systems with trivial band topology [PDF]

open access: greenPhysical Review Research
We derive quantum geometric bounds in spinful systems with spin topology characterized by a single Z index protected by a spin gap. Our bounds provide geometric conditions on the spin topology, distinct from the known quantum geometric bounds associated ...

Topology-Aware Multi-View Street Scene Image Matching for Cross-Daylight Conditions Integrating Geometric Constraints and Semantic Consistency

open access: goldISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information
While deep learning-based image matching methods excel at extracting high-level semantic features from remote sensing data, their performance degrades significantly under cross-daylight conditions and wide-baseline geometric distortions, particularly in ...

Automatic, Multiview, Coplanar Extraction for CityGML Building Model Texture Mapping

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Most 3D CityGML building models in street-view maps (e.g., Google, Baidu) lack texture information, which is generally used to reconstruct real-scene 3D models by photogrammetric techniques, such as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) mapping.

A fibering theorem for 3-manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesGroups, Complexity, Cryptology, 2021
We generalize a result of Moon on the fibering of certain 3-manifolds over the circle. Our main theorem is the following: Let $M$ be a closed 3-manifold.

Rule-based transformations for geometric modelling [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2011
The context of this paper is the use of formal methods for topology-based geometric modelling. Topology-based geometric modelling deals with objects of various dimensions and shapes.

Geometric Tomography with Topological Guarantees [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete & Computational Geometry, 2010
We consider the problem of reconstructing a compact 3-manifold (with boundary) embedded in $\mathbb{R}^3$ from its cross-sections $\mathcal S$ with a given set of cutting planes $\mathcal P$ having arbitrary orientations. Using the obvious fact that a point $x \in \mathcal P$ belongs to the original object if and only if it belongs to $\mathcal S$, we ...
