Imperfect Geometric Control and Overdamping for The Damped Wave Equation [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2014
We consider the damped wave equation on a manifold with imperfect geometric control. We show the sub-exponential energy decay estimate in \cite{Chr-NC-erratum} is optimal in the case of one hyperbolic periodic geodesic. We show if the equation is overdamped, then the energy decays exponentially.

Consistency of Imperfections in Steel Eurocodes

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
The second-order theory was used to analyze the flexural buckling of an individual member simply supported on both member ends, with a uniform double symmetric cross-section under a uniform axial force in an elastic state.

Optimal Design of Trusses With Geometric Imperfections

open access: yes13th AIAA/ISSMO Multidisciplinary Analysis Optimization Conference, 2010
The present paper focuses on optimization of trusses that have randomness in geometry that may arise from fabrication errors. The analysis herein is a generalization of a perturbation approach to topology optimization under geometric uncertainties. The main novelty in the present paper is in the consideration of potential buckling due to misaligned ...

Behaviour of thin-walled cylindrical and conical shells: Carbon vs. stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yesGrađevinski Materijali i Konstrukcije, 2019
Thin-walled cylindrical and conical shells represent one of the most complex structural elements considering their behaviour and susceptibility to buckling.

Cold-formed RHS T joints with initial geometrical imperfections

open access: yes, 2018
<p>Generally, numerical simulations of structures are carried out in such a way as to most accurately repeat their real behavior. The current rules for finite element modeling of tubular joints oblige scientists and engineers to construct their ...

Buckling and post-buckling of prestressed stainless steel stayed columns

open access: yesEngineering Structures and Technologies, 2017
Prestressed stayed compression members are frequently required as very slender load-bearing structural components by both investors and architects. Behavior of these members depends on their geometrical and material properties, prestressing and boundary ...

Multidimensional Characterisation of Time-dependent Image Data: A Case Study for the Peripheral Nervous System in Ageing Mice

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2021
Segmentation of µm-resolution image data of irregularly shaped objects poses challenges to existing segmentation algorithms. This is especially true, when imperfections like noise, uneven lightning or traces of sample preparation are present in the image

Dynamic behaviors of cylindrical shells with geometric imperfection [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
For finding out the relationship between vibrational modes and geometric imperfections, the dynamic behavior of cylindrical shells with a local imperfection is analyzed by using numerical simulation of finite element method in this paper. The results show that there are some differences in vibrational modes between cylindrical shells with and without ...

Thermal stability analysis of eccentrically stiffened Sigmoid-FGM plate with metal–ceramic–metal layers based on FSDT

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2016
This paper researches the thermal stability of eccentrically stiffened plates made of functionally graded materials (FGM) with metal–ceramic–metal layers subjected to thermal load. The equilibrium and compatibility equations for the plates are derived by

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control
