A dislocation density based constitutive model for crystal plasticity FEM including geometrically necessary dislocations

Acta Materialia, 2006
A dislocation density based constitutive model for face-centred cubic crystals is introduced and implemented into a crystal plasticity finite element framework. The approach assumes a homogeneous dislocation structure and tracks the dislocation evolution on each slip system.

Geometrically necessary dislocation density evolution as a function of microstructure and strain rate

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2022
Abstract The role of microstructure and strain rate on the development of geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density in polycrystalline copper subjected to compression is assessed via crystal plasticity modelling and electron microscopy. Micropolar crystal plasticity finite element (MP-CPFE) simulations show that GND density is strongly ...

Crystal plasticity analysis of micro-deformation, lattice rotation and geometrically necessary dislocation density [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2012
A gradient-enhanced crystal plasticity model is presented that explicitly accounts for the evolution of the densities of geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs) on individual slip systems of deforming crystals. The GND densities are fully coupled with the crystal slip rule.

Revealing the Geometrically Necessary Dislocation Density Evolution during Hot Compression of AA7050

Key Engineering Materials, 2022
Dislocations play a critical role in metal forming processes, and accurate values of dislocation density are important in modelling these processes. However, direct determination of the dislocation density is challenging. In this study, electron backscatter diffraction is used to estimate the evolution of geometrically necessary dislocation density as ...
