Polarizable Vanadium Dipoles Promote Water Dissociation on Vanadium‐Based Metal Organic Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The polarization of unpaired V 3d electrons weakens the H─O bond to improve water dissociation by the dual Vδ+:O─H and Pλ−:H─O coupling hydrogen bonds formation and relaxation. P@V‐MOF electrocatalyst shows low overpotentials (94 mV in acid, 178 mV in neutral, and 77 mV in alkaline solutions) with excellent stability for effective overall water ...

Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Mechanisms of MXene/PVDF Nanocomponsites: In Situ Characterization and Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and modeling reveal how Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets reinforce PVDF nanocomposites. An optimal MXene loading (∼1 wt.%) nearly doubles tensile strength through efficient stress transfer, flake alignment, and crack‐deflection mechanisms, transforming ductile polymer behavior into a controlled multi‐stage fracture pathway which aligns ...

Modeling plastic deformation of TWIP steel using cohesive zone and crystal plasticity finite element

open access: yesMaterials & Design
In this research, the cohesive zone model-crystal plasticity finite element (CZM-CPFE) method was applied to reveal the influence mechanism of grain boundaries (GBs) and grains on the mechanical properties of fine/ultrafine grained TWIP steels.

Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.

Irreversible evolution of dislocation pile-ups during cyclic microcantilever bending

open access: yesMaterials & Design
In single crystals, plastic deformations are predominantly governed by dislocation movement and interactions. The group of dislocations that creates strain gradients, known as geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs), also deterministically ...

Evidence of austenite memory in PH 15-5 and assessment of its formation mechanism

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Austenite memory and subsequent spontaneous recrystallization during austenitization is stated for some types of soft martensitic stainless steels such as X4CrNiMo16-5-1 or 13Cr5Ni but have not been proposed for the commercial alloy PH15-5 until now ...
