Plants 1.8(1.0–3.0) m tall; stems 1.8(1.0–3.0) m tall, 0.8(0.5–1.6) cm in diameter, solitary or clustered, canelike; internodes 2.7(1.1–7.8) cm long, covered with reddish or brownish scales, especially in their distal part.
