Anomalous Characteristics of Surface Geochemistry Above the Basin Geothermal System: A Case Study of the Shiba Basin in Huizhou, China

open access: yesGeofluids
As one of the comprehensive exploration techniques for underground geological resources, surface geochemical methods could play an important role in geothermal exploration, which requires detailed and systematic investigations. In this study, we take the

Multifactorial Screening for Fine‐Scale Selection of CCS Industrial Clusters and Hubs in Brazil

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As Brazil moves toward implementing its decarbonization commitments, carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs are emerging as a key pathway for large‐scale CO2 abatement in hard‐to‐abate sectors. This paper presents a multifactorial, data‐driven framework to screen and prioritize potential CCS industrial clusters and hubs across Brazilian regions,

Inverse Modelling of Lahendong geothermal field

open access: yes, 2016
Manual calibration to adjust parameters to produce a model that best represents the actual behaviour of a geothermal system is a tedious and frustrating process. This paper discusses automatic calibration of a geothermal reservoir model employing inverse

Evidence From Microscopy and U–Pb Geochronology as a Clue to the Influence of the Cretaceous Magmatism in the Diagenesis of Pre‐Salt Carbonate Reservoirs in the Santos Basin (Brazil)

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.

Numerical modelling of multiple standing column wells applied to geothermal heating and cooling in UK buildings

open access: yes
Standing column wells (SCWs) have the potential to deliver much higher rates of heat transfer to geothermal heating and cooling systems in buildings via heat pumps than conventional vertical borehole heat exchange arrays.

Mesozoic–Cenozoic Thermochronology of the Tarim–Southern Tianshan System, NW China

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Tectonothermal history of the Tarim–Southern Tianshan system compared with the major tectonic events at far‐field plate margins. ABSTRACT The Tarim Basin, an oil‐bearing basin in northwest China, is tectonically and sedimentologically linked to the Southern Tianshan Orogenic Belt.

Thermochronologic Constraints on the Extensional History of the Ibex Hills, Southeastern Black Mountains, Death Valley, California

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
A. Modeled T‐t paths for samples in the northern Ibex Hills, showing steady cooling throughout much of the Cenozoic, until rapid Miocene cooling. B. Weighted mean paths for each sample in this study. Note that all show a rapid cooling event at or just after 10 Ma, which is interpreted to represent exhumation as a result of regional extenstion ...
