Exploring wave propagation behaviors in rock: A grain‐based perspective on mineral structures

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates wave propagation in rock at the grain scale using a grain‐based model, revealing that mineral elastic modulus significantly influences wave attenuation while grain size and distribution have limited effects. A novel peak particle velocity attenuation prediction model is proposed and validated for grain‐scale wave propagation ...

Fluid Chemical and Isotopic Signatures Insighting the Hydrothermal Control of the Wahongshan-Wenquan Fracture Zone (WWFZ), NE Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesEnergies
Compared to the southern Tibetan Plateau, the northern part has been regarded as relatively lacking geothermal resources. However, there is no lack of natural hot springs exposed in beads along large-scale fracture systems, and research on them is ...

Caving‐enhanced geothermal system overwhelms fracturing‐ and pipe‐enhanced geothermal system in heat extraction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Our study reveals that caving‐enhanced geothermal systems (C‐EGS) with adequately fractured reservoirs achieve optimal heat extraction by minimizing preferential flow paths, while conventional fracturing (F‐EGS) and pipe‐based (P‐EGS) systems suffer accelerated thermal drawdown.

Rock typing in geothermal reservoirs: application of textural descriptors

open access: yes, 2016
Geothermal energy is a key in the transition to 90% renewable electricity production by 2025, which is a target set by New Zealand government. 22% of the current national electricity generation comes from geothermal resources and it is expected to keep ...

Techno-economic assessment of the horizontal geothermal heat pump systems: A comprehensive review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Geothermal heat pump has been widely recognized as one of the promising technologies for building applications because of its high energy efficiency and low operating expense, however the high capital investment and installation costs discourage building

Numerical simulation study on the evolution of the temperature field and frozen wall in fractured rock mass

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The evolution of the temperature field and frozen wall under different fracture conditions was examined by an artificial ground freezing‐based thermal‐hydraulic coupled model. It was observed that fracture inclination affects the interaction extent of freezing pipes and fracture, while phase transition extent is the dominant factor for heat transfer in

Development of the MultiGAS for determining fumarole gas chemistry in geothermal systems

open access: yes, 2013
Geothermal exploration relies in part on the gas geochemis- try of fumaroles, bubbling springs and steaming ground to offer insight into the nature of the fluids at depth, processes affecting them when rising to the surface, and provide estimates of the ...
