Geological-structural mapping and geocronology of shear zones: A methodological proposal

open access: yesBoletín Geológico, 2021
The deformation registered in rocks in the field can be characterized based on the structures preserved in outcrops, which can related be to wide discontinuity zones named faults and shear zones.

Tectono-metamorphic evolution of the Wadi Hafafit Culmination (central Eastern Desert, Egypt). Implication for Neoproterozoic core complex exhumation in NE Africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The Neoproterozoic rock assemblages in the Wadi Hafafit Culmination (WHC) can be subdivided into two main units which are separated by the Nugrus Thrust.

Elastic geothermobarometry: Corrections for the geometry of the host-inclusion system [PDF]

open access: yesGeology, 2018
Abstract Elastic geothermobarometry on inclusions is a method to determine pressure-temperature conditions of mineral growth independent of chemical equilibrium. Because of the difference in their elastic properties, an inclusion completely entrapped inside a host mineral will develop a residual stress upon exhumation, from which one can

Rapid Transition From High‐Pressure Metamorphism to Exhumation Driven by Orogen‐Parallel Extensional Shearing (Adula Unit, Eastern Central Alps)

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract In the Central Alps, the Adula unit exposes high‐ and ultra‐high‐pressure (HP‐UHP) metamorphic rocks, providing key insights into the subduction and exhumation dynamics of the former distal European margin. We investigate the San Bernardino Shear Zone (SBSZ), a top‐to‐the‐east extensional shear zone developed within orthogneiss and paragneiss ...

Geothermobarometry of basaltic glasses from the Tamu Massif, Shatsky Rise oceanic plateau

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2013
We present the results of a petrological study of core samples from Tamu Massif (Site U1347), recovered during the Shatsky Rise Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Expedition 324.

Origin of Silicic Magmas at Kibblewhite Volcano: Implications for Bimodal Volcanism in the Kermadec Arc

open access: yesIsland Arc, Volume 35, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the origin of silicic magmas at the Kibblewhite Volcano in the Kermadec arc. Two alternative differentiation pathways are evaluated: fractional crystallization of primary basaltic magmas producing low‐Mg andesites, and fractional crystallization of primary andesitic magmas represented by magnesian andesites.

Zircon and Melt Extraction From a Long‐Lived and Vertically Extensive Magma System Underneath Ilopango Caldera (El Salvador)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
The Tierra Blanca (TB) eruptive suite comprises the last four major eruptions of Ilopango caldera in El Salvador (≤45 ka), including the youngest Tierra Blanca Joven eruption (TBJ; ∼106 km3): the most voluminous event during the Holocene in Central ...

Table Cape vent xenolith suite, northwest Tasmania: Mineralogy and implications for crust-mantle lithology and Miocene geotherms in Tasmania. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The Miocene Table Cape vent erupted a diverse mantle-crust xenolith suite within its fractionated nephelinitic matrix. Assemblages include mantle metaperidotites, garnet-metawebsterites and rarer garnet-metadinopyroxenitcs, garnct-mctawehrlites ...

Carbonic Fluids Drive Continental Carbon Cycling as Revealed by the Geochemistry of the Eclogite‐Garnet Peridotite Interface

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract Subduction zones regulate Earth's carbon distribution, yet the mechanism of carbon transfer from continental crust to mantle remains elusive. We examined an eclogite‐garnet peridotite interface from the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling Program in the Sulu orogen, representing the slab–mantle wedge boundary formed during continental ...

A laser probe 40Ar /39Ar and INAA investigation of four Apollo granulitic breccias [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Infrared laser probe 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and analytical electron microscopy have been performed on four 0.5 x 1.0 x 0.3 cm polished rock tiles of Apollo 16 and 17 granulitic breccias (60035, 77017 ...
