Ultrasonic Vocalizations of Six Taxa of Southern African Gerbils (Rodentia: Gerbillinae)

Ethology, 1991
AbstractUltrasonic calling during male‐female encounters between individuals of the same species was investigated in six taxa of southern African gerbils, namely Tatera brantsii, Gerbillurus paeba paeba, G. p. cxilis, G. tytonis, G. setzeri, and G. vallinus.

Molecular phylogenetics of the genus Gerbillus (Rodentia, Gerbillinae): Implications for systematics, taxonomy and chromosomal evolution

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2010
Although gerbils forms an important component of the mammalian fauna of arid and semi-arid area, the taxonomic and phylogenetic relationship within the species of the genus Gerbillus are still ambiguous. The present paper introduces findings based on the whole cytochrome b (1140 bp) mitochondrial genes of seven species (Gerbillus campestris, G ...

Donnes nouvelles sur l'assortiment chromosomique de Meriones tristrami Thomas (Rodentia: Gerbillinae)

Genetica, 1973
The chromosome complement of Meriones tristrami Thomas (Rodentia, Gerbillinae), the Israel desert jird, studied by the new technique of chromosome identification (Q and G banding) is described. The diploid number is 72. There are two pairs of submetacentric autosomes (1 and 2) and 33 pairs of acrocentric autosomes.

Behaviour and Breeding in Captivity of the Namaqua Gerbil Desmodillus Auricularis (Cricetidae: Gerbillinae)

Zoologica Africana, 1973
Desmodillus auricilimis was kept in observation cages and subjected to an increased number of lighthours. The animal is nocturnal and its activity rhythm was adjusted using a red light to simulate darkness during the day. Three litters were produced from one pair and observations were made on twelve other litters born in the laboratory from pregnant ...

Sociální chování pískomilů (Gerbillinae)

The gerbils of the subfamily Gerbillinae represent an important taxon of rodents that includes a wide range of species inhabiting arid regions of the Old World. These species exhibit remarkable inter- and intraspecific variation in social behaviour, which is reflected in their mating systems, aggressive and territorial behaviour.
