Chemotherapy for Germ Cell Tumors
Urologic Clinics of North America, 1987With the advent of cisplatin-based chemotherapy and the incorporation of adjunctive surgery, 70 to 80 per cent of patients with advanced germ cell tumors are cured. Serum tumor markers are important diagnostically and prognostically and are necessary for monitoring response to therapy.

We performed a review of the current modalities of surgical treatment of malignant ovarian germ cell tumors by clinical stages and histological types. Stage IA dysgerminoma is performed with a unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (USO) without chemotherapy. However, for Stage IB or IC patients with dysgerminoma, USO plus chemotherapy as a primary treatment

AbstractIntracranial germ cell tumors are rare tumors occurring in adolescents and young adults, which include germinomas and non-germinomatous type germ cell tumors (NGGCT). In the past few decades, cooperative trial groups in Europe and North America have developed successful strategies to improve survival outcomes and decrease treatment-related ...

The category of germ cell tumors includes a broad array of histologic subtypes ranging from the benign, mature teratoma to the primitive, aggressive embryonal carcinoma (Box 1). These tumors share their origin in a primordial germ cell with multipotent capacity for differentiation along a variety of pathways.

This review provides an overview of some of the recent pre-clinical and clinical developments in germ cell tumors.Recent epidemiological studies highlight the variations in the geographic and ethnic distribution of germ cell tumors and the changing incidence of seminoma versus nonseminoma in the population. Additional studies are continuing to identify

During the review period, a number of papers were published reporting series of patients with malignant ovarian germ cell tumors and describing the increasingly successful worldwide trend observed in treatment of such patients. Publications dealing solely with the successful management of patients with pure dysgerminoma, using surgery followed by ...

Testicular cancer has been a model for a curable malignancy. The existence of an array of potential new therapies is the result of a prodigious effort in the researching and defining of the molecular components of the cancer phenotype and the subsequent rational design of agents to target candidate pathways.

Excluding hemangiomas, germ cell tumors (GCTs) are the most common neoplasm in neonates, comprising a wide range of benign and malignant tumors with unique histological diversity. Although these tumors are relatively rare, antenatal ultrasonography has increased their detection before birth.

Pediatric germ cell tumors represent a diverse group of tumors that present from in utero through adolescence at many nongonadal locations, from the neck to the sacrococcygeal region. Surgical resection remains the central element of management, and accurate surgical staging is essential to properly ascertain the correct risk-based treatment.
