Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Germany's Stephen Lawrence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Campaigners in Germany, protesting at the suspicious death in custody of Oury Jalloh in 2005 and the subsequent cover-up by the criminal justice system, are looking to the Lawrence trial, the Macpherson Report and other British institutional responses to

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Air pollution caused by motor-traffic in urban spaces

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 1994
The research program "Air pollution caused by motor-traffic in urban spaces" (abbreviated by IMKRAL) has been performed in Munich from spring 1989 until spring 1993. Some results will be discussed here.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Organized equity markets in Germany [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The German financial system is the archetype of a bank-dominated system. This implies that organized equity markets are, in some sense, underdeveloped.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Bewertung von Klima und Luft bei Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfungen

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 1994
Im Rahmen der kommunalen Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung wird vorgeschlagen, sich bei der Beurteilung der Luftqualität hauptsächlich auf das Stickstoffdioxid und das Ozon zu konzentrieren.
