ALLELOPATHIC POTENTIAL OF AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF LEAF AND ROOT SESAME ON SICKLEPOD AND BRACHIARIA SEEDS

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia de Biossistemas, 2021
Sicklepod is an important weed in Brazil pastures, but control measures are not yet effective. Thus, allelopathy can be an alternative, due to its ecological importance and for being able to provide new structures sources for agrochemicals production ...

Physiological responses of seeds from full-sib guava families to different substrate temperatures [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Fruticultura, 2020
Guava is an important fruit in Brazil and worldwide. However, research has yet to advance on its breeding and seed technology, an essential factor for the development of productive genotypes with germination potential which would support the continuity ...

Threshing Cylinder Speed Affects Germination of Amaranths cruentus L. Seeds [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 1994
The percentage of normal grain amaranth seedlings decreased and that of abnormal seedlings increased as threshing cylinder speed increased from 8.1 to 30.7 m·s-1. At the highest threshing speed, seed deterioration (loss of germination and increase in the percentage of abnormal seedlings) was exacerbated by increasing seed storage from 7 to 47 months ...

Differential Effects of Increasing Salinity on Germination and Seedling Growth of Native and Exotic Invasive Cordgrasses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Soil salinity is a key environmental factor influencing germination and seedling establishment in salt marshes. Global warming and sea level rise are changing estuarine salinity, and may modify the colonization ability of halophytes.

Cold Radiofrequency Plasma Treatment Modifies Wettability and Germination Speed of Plant Seeds [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2012
We report the possibility to modify the wetting properties of the surfaces of a diversity of seeds including: lentils (Lens culinaris), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and wheat (Triticum, species C9) by cold radiofrequency air plasma treatment. Air plasma treatment leads to the dramatic decrease in the apparent contact angle.

Treatment of Solanum torvum seeds improves germination in a batch-dependent manner

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Tropical, 2016
The Solanum torvum species can grow in soils with a heavy load of nematodes and pathogenic fungi. It is currently much in demand in intensive agriculture as a rootstock of Solanaceae species, such as eggplant and tomato.

The effect of seed inoculation with mycorrhizal fungi on germination and growth indicators of two papaya varieties in different culture substrates [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و فناوری بذر ایران, 2023
This experiment was conducted to investigate the germination and seedling growth of two papaya (Carica papaya L.) varieties in response to the inoculation of mycorrhizal fungi and culture substrates in a factorial in the form of a completely randomized ...

A fast ethanol assay to detect seed deterioration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The most common way to test seed quality is to use a simple and reliable but time- and space-consuming germination test. In this paper we present a fast and simple method to analyse cabbage seed deterioration by measuring ethanol production from ...
