Stratification requirements for seed dormancy alleviation in a wetland weed. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Echinochloaoryzicola(syn.E. phyllopogon) is an exotic weed of California rice paddies that has evolved resistance to multiple herbicides. Elimination of seedlingsthroughcertain weed control methods can limit the spread of this weed, but is contingent on ...

The Effect of Seed Priming and Accelerated Aging on Germination and Physiochemical Changes in Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)

open access: yesNotulae Scientia Biologicae, 2013
Effects of seed priming and aging on some physiological characteristics of Milk thistle was studied in a factoral experiment based on Complete Randomized Design (CRD). Tratments were included hydro priming (using distilled water), halo priming (0, 1.5, 3,

Effect of temperature and substrate on the germination of Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J.F. Macbr (amarelão) seeds

open access: yesAgrarian, 2011
This work aimed to evaluate the effect of different substrates and temperatures on the germination of amarelão (Apuleia leiocarpa) seeds. It was used four types of substrates (between paper, over paper, paper roll and sand) and five temperatures ...

Seedling survival of Handroanthus impetiginosus (Mart ex DC) Mattos in a semi-arid environment through modified germination speed and post-germination desiccation tolerance [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2015
Abstract Uniform rapid seed germination generally forms a great risk for the plant population if subsequent intermittent precipitation causes desiccation and seedling death. Handroanthus impetiginosus can be found commonly in a wide range of biomes within Brazil including those that are semi-arid.

Improvement of seed germination of Fagus orientalis Lipsky [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This thesis was seeking two main approaches for improvement of seed germination of oriental beech, a timber producing species in Hyrcanian forests in northern Iran. Germination behavior of beechnuts was enhanced either by decreasing the dormancy breakage

A Vascular Microphysiological Model of Lung Fibrosis Reveals That Myofibroblasts and IPF Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts Impair Angiogenesis and Vasculogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A microphysiological lung fibrosis model recapitulates myofibroblast–vascular interactions. Induced myofibroblasts and patient‐derived IPF fibroblasts impair angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability via TGF‐β1–driven signaling. Pharmacological interventions with SB 431542 and VEGF supplementation restore vascular morphology and barrier function.
