Development of a threshold model to predict germination of Populus tomentosa seeds after harvest and storage under ambient condition. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Effects of temperature, storage time and their combination on germination of aspen (Populus tomentosa) seeds were investigated. Aspen seeds were germinated at 5 to 30°C at 5°C intervals after storage for a period of time under 28°C and 75% relative ...

THE EVOLUTIONARY ECOLOGY OF SEED GERMINATION OF ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA: VARIABLE NATURAL SELECTION ON GERMINATION TIMING [PDF]

open access: yesEvolution, 2005
Germination timing of Arabidopsis thaliana displays strong plasticity to geographic location and seasonal conditions experienced by seeds. We identified which plastic responses were adaptive using recombinant inbred lines in a field manipulation of geographic location (Kentucky, KY; Rhode Island, RI), maternal photoperiod (14-h and 10-h days), and ...

Adaptive correlations between seed size and germination time [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Biology, 2018
We present a model for the coevolution of seed size and germination time within a season when both affect the ability of the seedlings to compete for space. We show that even in the absence of a morphological or physiological constraint between the two traits, a correlation between seed size and germination time is nevertheless likely to evolve.

AtCSP1 regulates germination timing promoted by low temperature [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2013
An Arabidopsis gene trap line (GT606), which disrupted the AtCSP1 gene, exhibited an early germination phenotype that was affected by stratification treatment. Comparative analysis of GUS expression in seeds at the early germination stage, with or without stratification, demonstrated that AtCSP1 expression was affected by cold temperature.

Sensitivity of Seed Germination to Salt Stress in Teff [Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter]

open access: yesBulletin of University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca: Horticulture, 2019
Teff is an annual grass originated in Ethiopia, grown for both human food and animal feed. Salinity and moisture stress are the main limiting factors of agricultural development on arid and semi-arid regions.

Variation in seed germination of 134 common species on the eastern Tibetan Plateau: phylogenetic, life history and environmental correlates. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Seed germination is a crucial stage in the life history of a species because it represents the pathway from adult to offspring, and it can affect the distribution and abundance of species in communities.

Time-Resolved Proteomics of Germinating Spores of Bacillus cereus

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2022
Bacillus cereus is a spore-forming human pathogen that is a burden to the food chain. Dormant spores are highly resistant to harsh environmental conditions, but lose resistance after germination. In this study, we investigate the B. cereus spore proteome upon spore germination and outgrowth so as to obtain new insights into the molecular mechanisms ...

Effect of Germination Time and Extrusion Temperature on Properties of Germinated Brown Rice

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition, 2007
In order to develop a novel food utilization of germinated brown rice, physicochemical properties of germinated brown rice and its extrudates were investigated. The physical characteristics, the paste viscosity, and the anti-oxidation activity were analyzed. Brown rice was soaked for 10 hr and germinated for 24 and 48 hr at .

Effects of Osmo-priming Duration on Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Seed Germination and Seedling Parameters

open access: yesJournal of Experimental and Molecular Biology, 2023
The study was conducted to determine the effects of osmo-priming duration on the germination and seedling parameters of rice seeds. Two rice varieties FARO 44 and FARO 59 were used for the study.
