Core reference sets of sorghum and musa : from a whole collection to a mini core collection and back (W291) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The core approach for investigating genetic diversity in a crop germplasm collection has proven merits, among which the possibility to choose a sample of manageable size (e.g.

Assessing the viability of genebanked seeds from rare, wild plants native to the United States using the D.E.A.D. paradigm

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Genebanks must maintain viable seeds for decades. Seeds that germinate are clearly alive, but some seeds, often from wild populations, do not germinate because they are dormant, empty, aged, or damaged (D.E.A.D.). This work evaluates the effects of D.E.A.D.

Usefulness of a New Large Set of High Throughput EST-SNP Markers as a Tool for Olive Germplasm Collection Management

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Germplasm collections are basic tools for conservation, characterization, and efficient use of olive genetic resources. The identification of the olive cultivars maintained in the collections is an important ongoing task which has been performed by both,

Establishment of Interspecies Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer and Transgene‐Free Inducible Pluripotent Stem Cells for Versatile Conservation of the Germplasm Resource of Wild Boar

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Conserving genetic material and even increasing genetic diversity is critical. To conduct the conservation of wild boar germplasm resources, we have successfully obtained healthy cloned wild boars for the first time using interspecies somatic cell nuclear transfer and established transgene‐free iPSCs that can be used to conduct iterative rounds of gene

Fasting and Refeeding Mediated Phospholipid Remodeling Plays an Important Role in Improving Meat Quality of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

SCUTELLARIA GENUS – POSSIBILITIES FOR USE OF SPECIES AS FLORAL AND MEDICINAL CROP [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Development, 2009
Out of 350 species of Scutellaria found in the world, 90 species are reported from North America and 8 are native from Romania, but only three (S. altissima L., S. galericulata L., S. hastifolia L.) are very common.

The concept of "Networked collection" or "Virtual collection"?: revisiting the classical delineation between "in situ" and "ex situ" conservation and its consequences on database management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A networked collection, also called a virtual collection, is located at more than one geographical/institutional site, spans the genetic diversity of a given species (genepool) and gathers stakeholders having a mutual interest in rationally conserving ...

Ursolic Acid Alleviates Orchitis via Modulating Ferroptosis in Peritubular Myoid Cells of Testis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Ursolic acid modulates key ferroptosis‐related pathways in the peritubular myoid cells of the testis in forest musk deer. ABSTRACT Chronic stress adversely affects reproductive health, increasing susceptibility to pathologies such as orchitis. Additionally, the maintenance of iron homeostasis is essential for preserving the function of the testicles ...

Variability Assessment of Aromatic Rice Germplasm by Pheno-Genomic traits and Population Structure Analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
While the pleasant scent of aromatic rice is making it more popular, with demand for aromatic rice expected to rise in future, varieties of this have low yield potential.
