DNA banks and their role in facilitating the application of genomics to plant germplasm [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Genetic Resources, 2006
Advances in genomics have provided technologies for high throughput analysis of plant genomes with potential for use in gene discovery in germplasm collections. The establishment of DNA banks facilitates this screening by making DNA from large numbers of plant accessions widely available.

Germplasm Conservation: Instrumental in Agricultural Biodiversity—A Review [PDF]

open access: yesSustainability, 2021
Germplasm is a valuable natural resource that provides knowledge about the genetic composition of a species and is crucial for conserving plant diversity. Germplasm protection strategies not only involve rescuing plant species threatened with extinction,

Structure and molecular genetic diversity in natural populations and active germplasm banks of Passiflora cincinnata Mast. [PDF]

open access: yesChilean Journal of Agricultural Research, 2022
Passiflora cincinnata Mast. is a wild passion fruit species widely distributed in Brazil, with diverse economic potential and source of resistance to biotic and abiotic stress factors. Despite this, molecular genetic studies on this species are incipient,

The germplasm bank of the Botanical Garden of the University of Malaga

2023
The collection of the Germplasm Bank of the University of Malaga began recently associated with its Botanical Garden, in October 2021. The collection is made up of diaspores (fruits/seeds) of plant species belonging to the botanical garden itself and other native species of the vegetation of different areas of the province of Malaga.

Isoenzymatic variability in an apple germplasm bank

Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, 2003
Apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) is a species, which has a very high degree of morphologic and genetic variability. Genetic variability within a group formed by 277 old varieties from Navarra has been studied through isoenzymatic analysis. 14 loci, corresponding to 7 isoenzymatic systems, were visualized, detecting between 1 and 5 alleles per locus.

Reproduction biotechnologies in germplasm banking of livestock species: a review

Zygote, 2017
SummaryMany biotechnologies are currently used in livestock breeding with the aim of improving reproductive efficiency and increasing the rate of genetic progress in production animals. Semen cryopreservation is the most widely used cryobiotechnology, although vitrification techniques now allow embryos and oocytes to be banked in ever-increasing ...

Characterization of Exotic Tomato Germplasm from ICAR-NBPGR Gene Bank

Indian Journal of Plant Genetic Resources, 2023
The present study describes the characterization of 148 exotic tomato accessions from ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi gene bank. The degree of variance for morphological features was high. Mean plant height of 72.36 cm, number of primary branches 2.7, days to 50% flowering 74.9, number of flower clusters per plant 5.91, number of flowers per cluster 3.91, number
