Why the Long “Horns”? Fine‐Scale Morphology Suggests Tactile Demands Contributed to the Exaggeration of Male Longhorned Beetle Antennae (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
Exceptionally elongated antennae are common in male longhorned beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), but their function and evolution are poorly understood. Through scanning electron microscopy and antennal morphometrics of multiple Anoplistes species (Cerambycidae), our study revealed that elongate antennae are more likely adaptive for close‐range ...

Age and growth of larval Pacific flagfin mojarra (Eucinostomus currani) in coastal Ecuador based on otolith analysis

open access: yesCiencias Marinas
The flagfin mojarra (Eucinostomus currani) is an important subsistence fishery resource in local Ecuadorian markets; however, very little is known about the early life history and reproductive biology of this species. In 2016 and 2017, E.

Demersal fish community on the inner shelf of Ubatuba, southeastern Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 1998
Fluctuations in the distribution and abundance of demersal fishes collected by otter trawl on the continental shelf of Ubatuba were examined over a two-year sampling period, in an area up to 50 m depth. A total of 111 species were collected. Seasonal and

Embryonic Development of Appasus japonicus Vuillefroy, With Special Reference to Mouthparts Formation (Insecta: Heteroptera, Belostomatidae)

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 286, Issue 5, May 2025.
In this study, we provide a detailed description of the embryonic development of Appasus japonicus, focusing on the formation of its specialized mouthparts. Assessing Fish Community Structure and Diversity Across Environmental Gradients in a Tropical Bay

open access: yesMarine Ecology, Volume 46, Issue 2, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Understanding the relationship between species distribution and the environment across spatial gradients is crucial for biodiversity evaluation. We surveyed fish populations in a tropical bay, covering a spatial gradient from the outer zone with favorable marine conditions to the inner zone affected by human activities.
