Mexican Freshwater Fish: Identifying Conservation Priorities and High‐Risk Areas for Fisheries Under Climate Change

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Freshwater fish are essential components of aquatic ecosystems, providing key ecological functions and supporting livelihoods. Climate change poses a significant threat to freshwater biodiversity; consequently, both its conservation and the food security it sustains may be at risk.

Comparison of the diel and spatial distribution patterns of ichthyoplankton and ichthyoneuston in the Southeastern Brazilian Bight

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 1990
Fish larvae were collected by neuston and bongo nets, in the Southeastern Brazil, during four océanographie cruises (January 1980; January 1981; October 1981; and March 1982).

Biochemical Responses of Anopheles spp. Larvae to a Novel Brazilian BR101 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Formulation: Oxidative Stress, Detoxification Enzymes, and Safety for Nontarget Notonectidae and Gerridae Aquatic Insects

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 2, February 2026.
Bti BR101 exhibits strong larvicidal activity against Anopheles larvae spp., with dose‐dependent mortality and LC50 of 3.13 µg/mL. Bti increases ROS, lipid and protein oxidation, and activates antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx) and detoxification pathways (MFO and esterases), indicating moderate oxidative stress.

Feeding habits of the mojarras (Gerreidae) population in the hyperhaline lagoon system of Ría Lagartos, Yucatan, Mexico

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2018
The trophic preferences and ontogenic variations were evaluated and compared between five species of mojarras collected bimonthly for two years (2004-2005) in the hyperhaline lagoon system of Ria Lagartos, Yucatan Peninsula.

Exploring the phylogenetic history of water striders (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha) using genome‐skimming

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
Using genome‐skimming, we provide a robust and comprehensive phylogeny of the Gerridae. Our data support the monophyly of all subfamilies except paraphyletic Gerrinae. Non‐monophyly was found for Gerrini, Metrobatini and Trepobatini. Additionally, we reaffirm the non‐monophyly of the genera Aquarius and Tenagogonus, both part of the Gerrinae.

Behavioural and reflex responses of mottled mojarra Eucinostomus lefroyi (Gerreidae) to cold shock exposure

open access: yesAquatic Biology, 2014
Global climate change is predicted to increase incidences of abrupt declines in oceanic temperatures due to storms or upwelling. Fish occupying shallow, near-shore marine habitats may be vulnerable to mortality or sub-lethal fitness effects due to cold ...

Structural and Numerical Chromosome Diversification in Marine Perciformes (Priacanthidae and Gerreidae)

open access: yesCYTOLOGIA, 2006
The Perciformes are characterized by a remarkable chromosomal homogeneity, with a small percentage of its representatives bearing diploid numbers higher or lower than their putative basal number (2n=48). Due to the wide diversity of this group, several families from this order lack cytogenetic reports, such as Gerreidae and Priacanthidae.

Putative Novel Viruses in the Families Lispiviridae and Rhabdoviridae Detected in Culex and Anopheles Mosquitoes Collected at the São Paulo Zoo

open access: yesAdvances in Virology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Several viruses belonging to the order Mononegavirales are recognized as highly pathogenic in humans and are often associated with lethal disease outcomes. Prominent examples include human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV), Ebola virus (EBOV), rabies virus (RABV), and Marburg virus (MARV).

Assessing the Relationship Between Macroinvertebrate Metrics and Fine Sediment Index for Ecological Biomonitoring in the Little Akaki River, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
Habitat quality had a positive correlation with percentage of Ephemeroptera, percentage of EOT, and Shannon diversity index (r = 0.833, r = 0.880, and r = 0.939, respectively). PSI had positive correlation with number of taxa, and ASPT‐ETHbios (r = 0.819, and r = 0.798, respectively). Most sites were heavily sedimented.

An Upper Cretaceous arthropod assemblage from Villaggio del Pescatore (Campanian, Italy) and its implications for peri‐Tethyan palaeobiogeography and palaeoecology

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 11, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract The Villaggio del Pescatore (VdP) fossil Lagerstätte represents the most significant Upper Cretaceous (lower–middle Campanian) palaeontological locality in Italy and the Mediterranean region. We present the first systematic revision of the VdP fossil assemblage with a focus on its previously undescribed arthropod fauna, providing new insights ...
