Assessing the Relationship Between Macroinvertebrate Metrics and Fine Sediment Index for Ecological Biomonitoring in the Little Akaki River, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. [PDF]
Habitat quality had a positive correlation with percentage of Ephemeroptera, percentage of EOT, and Shannon diversity index (r = 0.833, r = 0.880, and r = 0.939, respectively). PSI had positive correlation with number of taxa, and ASPT‐ETHbios (r = 0.819, and r = 0.798, respectively). Most sites were heavily sedimented.

Using genome‐skimming, we provide a robust and comprehensive phylogeny of the Gerridae. Our data support the monophyly of all subfamilies except paraphyletic Gerrinae. Non‐monophyly was found for Gerrini, Metrobatini and Trepobatini. Additionally, we reaffirm the non‐monophyly of the genera Aquarius and Tenagogonus, both part of the Gerrinae.

Diapause development in Aquarius paludum (Heteroptera: Gerridae) [PDF]
Diapause fixation and development were studied in females of a Czech population of Aquarius paludum by monitoring changes in oxygen uptake, weight and reproduction potential in field adults between August and February. The fall in oxygen uptake related to fresh weight (from > 1000 µl O2 per g per h to around 500 µl O2 per g per h) in field adults ...

A new Potamobates Champion species (Heteroptera: Gerridae) from Ecuador with new distribution records for P. williamsi [PDF]
Potamobates sumaco new species is described from the Ecuadorian Amazon. Male and female genitalia differentiate P. sumaco from a similar parapatric species, P. williamsi Hungerford. Phylogenetic analysis indicates P.

Abstract The Villaggio del Pescatore (VdP) fossil Lagerstätte represents the most significant Upper Cretaceous (lower–middle Campanian) palaeontological locality in Italy and the Mediterranean region. We present the first systematic revision of the VdP fossil assemblage with a focus on its previously undescribed arthropod fauna, providing new insights ...

Life History and Laboratory Rearing of \u3ci\u3eGerris Argenticollis\u3c/i\u3e (Hemiptera: Gerridae) with Descriptions of Immature Stages [PDF]
The life history of Gerris argenticollis was investigated in Jackson County, Illinois, March-June 1986, and the immature stages were described. The water strider also was reared from egg to adult under laboratory conditions.

In this study we investigated the macroinvertebrate (MI) communities in two newly created, man‐made ponds concurrently with the diet of captive‐bred European pond turtles that were translocated there. We aimed at assessing whether turtles were operating as generalist feeders, and if successive reintroductions of turtles would affect the overall MI ...

Strategies, costs and counter‐strategies to sexual coercion
ABSTRACT Sexual conflict, the conflict between the evolutionary interests of females and males over mating, occasionally results in the evolution of traits favourable for one sex and adverse for the other. In this context, males can use sexual coercion to increase their mating success, at the expense of their female targets' mate choice.

ABSTRACT Aquatic insects are an abundant, yet declining, taxonomically heterogeneous group with special importance in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Accurate estimations of insect biomass during their aquatic life stages are essential to advance our fundamental knowledge about insects, their roles in ecosystems, and their vulnerability to ...
