Chiasmate male meiosis in six species of water bugs from infraorders Nepomorpha and Gerromorpha (Insecta: Heteroptera)

open access: yesComparative Cytogenetics, 2009
The type of male meiosis is a stable character at the family level in the order Heteroptera and provides additional information on the relationships between taxa.

Deliberations on the External Morphology and Modification of the Labial Segments in the Nepomorpha (Heteroptera: Insecta) with Notes on the Phylogenetic Characteristics

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
The present study provides new data concerning the external morphology of the labial segments of 46 species from nine Nepomorpha families using the scanning electron microscope. The labial segments are described in detail and images of their structures are presented for the systematic groups.

Checklist of Aquatic Heteroptera genera (Insecta: Hemiptera) from Brazilian Savanna (Cerrado Biome), with family and genera identification key

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis, 2022
Insects of the order Hemiptera (Heteroptera) are considered the largest group of insects with incomplete metamorphosis. Representatives of the Gerromorpha and Nepomorpha infraorders are found in the Brazilian Savanna (Cerrado Biome).

Exploring the phylogenetic history of water striders (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha) using genome‐skimming

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
Using genome‐skimming, we provide a robust and comprehensive phylogeny of the Gerridae. Our data support the monophyly of all subfamilies except paraphyletic Gerrinae. Non‐monophyly was found for Gerrini, Metrobatini and Trepobatini. Additionally, we reaffirm the non‐monophyly of the genera Aquarius and Tenagogonus, both part of the Gerrinae.

Morphological study of the antennal sensilla in Gerromorpha (Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera). [PDF]

open access: yesZoomorphology, 2017
AbstractThe external morphology and distribution of the antennal sensilla of 21 species from five families of semiaquatic bugs (Gerromorpha) were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Nine main types were distinguished based on their morphological structure: sensilla trichoidea, sensilla chaetica, sensilla leaflike, sensilla campaniformia ...

Where Do You Fly From? Assessing Aerial Dispersal in Temporary Rivers Using Stable Isotopes

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 70, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Dispersal is a crucial ecological process that facilitates gene flow and species exchange within ecosystems. In temporary rivers (TRs), dispersal is a key driver of community assembly because it determines the ability of the organisms to adapt to seasonal drying and maintain stable populations.

A taxonomic review of Ptilomera from China, with descriptions of two new species (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerridae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology
The species of Ptilomera Amyot & Serville, 1843 from China are reviewed. Two new species, Ptilomera acutidentata sp. n. and Ptilomera valida sp. n., are described from Yunnan, China. Diagnoses and new distribution records are provided for four previously
