Towards the Thousandth CubeSat: A Statistical Overview

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
CubeSats have become an interesting innovation in the space sector. Such platforms are being used for several space applications, such as education, Earth remote sensing, science, and defense. As of May 31st, 2018, 855 CubeSats had been launched. Remote sensing application is the main sector in which CubeSats are being used, corresponding to about 45 ...

Climate Change‐Induced Distribution Shifts of Keratin‐Feeding Beetle Omorgus (Omorgus) suberosus: Implications for Olive Ridley Sea Turtle Lepidochelys olivacea Conservation

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 28, Issue 6, Page 803-816, December 2025.
Our study projects significant climate change‐induced distribution shifts of a keratin‐feeding beetle Omorgus suberosus, with expansions into higher latitudes in Europe and North America and notable habitat losses in tropical regions by 2100. Ecological niche models predict a global habitat reduction of 9.5% under SSP2–4.5 and 20.8% under SSP5–8.5 ...

Genetic diversity is key to a nature‐positive future

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 11, Page 2578-2584, November 2025.
Abstract Nature‐positive describes the concept of halting and then reversing the loss of biodiversity in a manner that is equitable to all, particularly indigenous peoples and local communities. Genetic diversity is the foundational component of biodiversity, underpinning species and ecosystem diversity.

Monitoring population extinction risk with community science data

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 9, Page 2133-2147, September 2025.
Our modelling framework provides a robust, computationally efficient and easy‐to‐apply tool for monitoring local persistence probability that can support global conservation efforts. This will complement the monitoring of species population viability in places where standardized monitoring is still lacking, but community science observations are common.

Dispersal Ability Reduces Thermal Specialization and Prevents Climate‐Driven Extinctions in a Neotropical Rainforest

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 8, August 2025.
We found that species with higher dispersal ability are less specialized in their temperature tolerances and more likely to persist under climate change. By analyzing more than 6 thousand species of plants, invertebrates, and vertebrates distributed in the Atlantic Rainforest, we show that more mobile species can avoid extinction by shifting locations,

Spatial capture‐recapture can improve environmental impact assessments for large carnivores

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 3, July–September 2025.
Most Environmental Impact Assessments for large carnivores rely on summary statistics or relative abundance indices, all of which ignore imperfect detection and may lead to biased and unreliable conclusions about population status and infrastructure impacts. By applying spatial capture‐recapture (SCR) models to georeferenced genetic data from wolves in

Using Q‐methodology for policy research and stakeholder engagement to strengthen public health in large‐scale mining in Mozambique

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 33, Issue 1, Page 1298-1314, February 2025.
Abstract Mining projects can have adverse effects on public health, potentially impacting the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. While environmental impacts are typically addressed through mandatory environmental impact assessments, public health consequences often receive inadequate attention, despite being a major concern for affected communities ...
