Consistent cord blood DNA methylation signatures of gestational age between South Asian and white European cohorts

open access: yesClinical Epigenetics
Background Epigenetic modifications, particularly DNA methylation (DNAm) in cord blood, are an important biological marker of how external exposures during gestation can influence the in-utero environment and subsequent offspring development. Despite the

Recommendations for the Use of Disease‐Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs in Pregnancy and Reproductive Health for Patients With Rheumatic Disease: A Scoping Review

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Autoimmune rheumatic diseases commonly affect individuals of childbearing age, with historically increased adverse pregnancy outcomes in this group. The advent of disease‐modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) has fostered more suitable conditions for pregnancy; however, this is accompanied by challenges in ensuring safe use in reproductive ...

Performance of Intergrowth 21st Growth Charts in the Diagnosis of Small and Large for Gestational Age in Term and Preterm Newborns

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 2020
Introduction: Birth weight is a major contributor to neonatal morbidity and mortality and is associated with chronic diseases in adulthood. This study aimed to evaluate the use of Intergrowth 21st instead of the Fenton & Kim 2013 growth charts in the ...

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.

Smart Polymeric 3D Microscaffolds Hosting Spheroids for Neuronal Research via Quantum Metrology

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
Development of a platform consisting of 3D microscaffolds supporting 3D embryoid bodies for neuronal research. The polymeric scaffolds enable directed growth of neurites. This study shows nanodiamond‐based quantum sensors graft onto the polymer material, enabling quantum metrology experiments within the 3D neuronal model and thereby providing a ...

Correlation of placental thickness with gestational age in second and third trimester using ultrasonography

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2023
Background The accuracy of currently established parameters in estimating gestational age decreases as pregnancy advances. With advancing gestational age, there is an expected linear increase in placental thickness.

Cytokine mRNA Delivery and Local Immunomodulation in the Placenta Using Lipid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
This article evaluates lipid nanoparticles to deliver immunomodulatory mRNA to placental cells and mouse placentas to study and treat the immune underpinnings of placenta‐related diseases. Lipid nanoparticles induce cytokine secretion and macrophage polarization toward an anti‐inflammatory state.

Single Administration of AAV‐mAtp6v1b2 Gene Therapy Rescues Hearing and Vestibular Disorders Caused by Atp6v1b2‐Induced Lysosomal Dysfunction in Hair Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wei et al. establish a hair cell‐specific conditional knockout mouse model (Atp6v1b2fl/fl;Atoh1Cre/+), and demonstrate the importance of Atp6v1b2 for hair cell through maintaining the survival of lysosomes. A single administration of AAV‐ie‐Eh3‐mAtp6v1b2 through scala media at P0‐P2 realizes function compensation and restores hearing and balance ...
