Gesture-based interaction and communication: automated classification of hand gesture contours

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, Part C: Applications and Reviews, 2001
The accurate classification of hand gestures is crucial in the development of novel hand gesture-based systems designed for human-computer interaction (HCI) and for human alternative and augmentative communication (HAAC). A complete vision-based system, consisting of hand gesture acquisition, segmentation, filtering, representation and classification ...

Advanced algorithms for surgical gesture classification

2014 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2014
A novel gesture binary classification procedure is presented to determine surgical ability. To this aim a sensory glove was employed to track surgical hand movements and sensors data were recorded to be processed by a specific algorithm. The classification task was able to discriminate a gesture made by an expert surgeon with respect to a novice one ...

Measurement System for Classification of Hand’s Gesture

2018 IEEE 20th International Conference on e-Health Networking, Applications and Services (Healthcom), 2018
The goal was to create precise hardware that would be able to measure signal of myopotentials from defined area of forearm for the computer analysis without external noise and with right amplification. The second goal was to program an algorithm which could classify specific gestures of hand based on an analysis of myopotencial signals.

Gesture recognition via pose classification

Proceedings 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition. ICPR-2000, 2002
This paper describes a modular approach to gesture recognition. The complex task of gesture recognition from image sequences was decomposed by first identifying the hand pose in individual frames. The pose information was then incorporated with hand motion to recognize gestures. Independent recognition modules were devised for different subtasks.

Hand gestures recognition classification

International Journal of Engineering Research Updates, 2022
The use of hand gestures for human-machine interaction offers an enticing alternative to bulky interface devices. The current study discusses the classification of gestures in real time and aims to create an algorithm capable of classifying gestural control commands accurately.

Gestures Classification Based on Semantic Classification Tree

2009 2nd International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, 2009
This paper presents a novel approach for classifying arm gestures by building a three-layer semantic classification tree. We first extract three semantic features that explicitly contain communicative information and have outstanding descriptive ability.

Classification of Gesture with Layered Meanings

2004
Automatic sign language recognition research has largely not addressed an integral aspect of sign language communication – grammatical inflections which are conveyed through systematic temporal and spatial movement modifications. We propose to use low-level static and dynamic classifiers, together with Bayesian Networks, to classify gestures that ...

Template based classification of multi-touch gestures

Pattern Recognition, 2013
We propose a probabilistic classifier for multi-touch gestures specified by users themselves. The template-based gesture classifier allows selecting gesture types more freely without constraints regarding implementation issues and considers multi-finger or bi-manual operations. The statistical approaches to the classification scheme are presented.

Robust classification of face and head gestures in video

Image and Vision Computing, 2011
Automatic analysis of head gestures and facial expressions is a challenging research area and it has significant applications in human-computer interfaces. We develop a face and head gesture detector in video streams. The detector is based on face landmark paradigm in that appearance and configuration information of landmarks are used.
