The ghost crab Ocypode quadrata (Fabricius) is both a scavenger and an active predator which can be seen prowling the sea wrack left by the tide, especially at night. Williams (1965) stated that the crabs often will feed upon beached fish and I have seen them consuming portions of dead bluefish and striped mullet.

Haunted waters : an estimate of ghost fishing of crabs and lobsters by traps
2009Ghost fishing is the mortality caused by lost fishing gear and as such, its effect on target populations is difficult to quantify. This study seeks to rectify that by developing a methodology to estimate the effect of ghost fishing by lost pots and traps on large crustaceans (crabs and lobsters).
