Spin-Torque Switching with the Giant Spin Hall Effect of Tantalum [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2012
Giant Spin Hall One of the primary challenges in the field of spin-electronics, which exploits the electron's spin rather than its charge, is to create strong currents of electrons with polarized spins.

Giant virus biology and diversity in the era of genome-resolved metagenomics

open access: yesNature Reviews Microbiology, 2022
The discovery of giant viruses, with capsids as large as some bacteria, megabase-range genomes and a variety of traits typically found only in cellular organisms, was one of the most remarkable breakthroughs in biology.

Giant virus diversity and host interactions through global metagenomics

open access: yesNature, 2020
Our current knowledge about nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses (NCLDVs) is largely derived from viral isolates that are co-cultivated with protists and algae.

Giant and Tunneling Magnetoresistance in Unconventional Collinear Antiferromagnets with Nonrelativistic Spin-Momentum Coupling [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2021
Giant or tunneling magnetoresistance are physical phenomena used for reading information in commercial spintronic devices. The effects rely on a conserved spin current passing between a reference and a sensing ferromagnetic electrode in a multilayer ...

California Legacy Survey. II. Occurrence of Giant Planets beyond the Ice Line [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2021
We used high-precision radial velocity measurements of FGKM stars to determine the occurrence of giant planets as a function of orbital separation spanning 0.03–30 au.

Comparative genomics reveals bamboo feeding adaptability in the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2020
The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is one of the world’s most endangered mammals and remains threatened as a result of intense environmental and anthropogenic pressure.

Multispin giants [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2004
We examine spherical p-branes in AdS_m x S^n, that wrap an S^p in either AdS_m (p=m-2) or S^n (p=n-2). We first construct a two-spin giant solution expanding in S^n and has spins both in AdS_m and S^n. For (m,n)={(5,5),(4,7),(7,4)}, it is 1/2 supersymmetric, and it reduces to the single-spin giant graviton when the AdS spin vanishes.

The Impact of Bamboo Consumption on the Spread of Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Giant Pandas

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2023
The spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the environment exacerbates the contamination of these genes; therefore, the role plants play in the transmission of resistance genes in the food chain requires further research.

Nonreciprocal and chiral single-photon scattering for giant atoms [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2022
Quantum optics with giant atoms has provided a new paradigm to study photon scatterings. In this work, we investigate the nontrivial single-photon scattering properties of giant atoms being an effective platform to realize nonreciprocal and chiral ...
