Giant radio galaxy NGC315

Nature, 1976
A giant radio source with an unusual Z-shaped structure extending over nearly one degree on the sky has been detected around the nearby elliptical galaxy NGC315. The source has structure aligned with the minor axis of the optical galaxy on linear scales ranging from a few tens of kpc to ~ 1.7 Mpc. There is also a bright compact (

Giant HI clouds in the Galaxy

2008
A substantial fraction of the mass of all the interstellar material in the outer Galaxy is in the form of giant cloud complexes that extend for several hundred parsecs each, at a mean density of ~10 cm -3 and a mass of 107Mo (McGee and Milton 1964; Kerr 1964; Burke, Turner and Tuve 1964). McGee and Milton found 29 such clouds in the outer Galaxy.

Kinematics of Giant H II Regions in Nearby Galaxies

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2004
We present optical high-spectral-resolution long-slit observations of massive star formation regions in the nearby galaxies M101, NGC 2403, and M33 obtained with the WHT. We have constructed velocity, line dispersion and intensity maps using between 6 and 12 parallel slits in each case.

Giant dark matter halos of galaxies

Physics Letters A, 1995
Abstract An analysis of rotation curves of several spiral galaxies is presented. The giant halo dimensions and the effective moments of birth of these galaxies are determined.
