Color Preference in the Gibbon
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1976Color preference was tested by showing 6 colored objects to one adult gibbon. The subject demonstrated both color and position preferences on a modified Wisconsin General Test Apparatus. The blue object and, during some conditions, responses to the subject's right were most preferred.

The gibbons speciation mechanism
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1990A mechanism of sympatric speciation first proposed by Gibbons (1979, Am. Nat. 114, 719-741) is analyzed and submitted to computer simulation. It is found that, in its original form, the mechanism does not bring about reproductive isolation, but that with relatively minor modification, it may be made to work as claimed.

IT has often been a problem for musical historians to unravel the puzzle of the Gibbons family, and William Gibbons, the father of Edward, Ellis and Orlando Gibbons, has been the pivot round which the mystery has centred. The assumption has always been held that they were a Cambridge family, but when it was discovered that Orlando Gibbons was ...

Malignant Lymphoma in the Gibbon
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1971SUMMARY Malignant lymphoma was detected during a 16-month period in 4 of 120 gibbons in a laboratory colony. The incidence of this disease in this colony was considered unusually high for subhuman primates.

Ecological compatibility of sympatric gibbons is achieved by a difference in diet resulting from the effect of differing body sizes on the efficiency of harvesting different foods. In addition, differences in feeding apparatus and body size between the large and small species maximise the rate at which each can eat its most eaten food type.
