Gigapixel imaging with microlens arrays
SPIE Proceedings, 2016A crucial part of the drug discovery process involves imaging the response of thousands of cell cultures to candidate drugs. Quantitative parameters from these “high content screens”, such as protein expression and cell morphology, are extracted from fluorescence and brightfield micrographs.

Feedback stitching for gigapixel video
Journal of Electronic Imaging, 2015Methods of stitching static panoramas are unsuitable for video-rate stitching from camera arrays, because these methods are too computationally intensive for real-time operation and do not take advantage of prior knowledge of camera positions or the coherence between successive frames of a video sequence. We propose feedback stitching, which embeds the

Pan-STARRS and Gigapixel Cameras
2006The Pan-STARRS project will undertake repeated surveys of the sky, finding "Killer Asteroids" and everything which moves or blinks, as well as building an unprecedentedly deep and accurate image of the sky. The key technology for this is the next generation of large format cameras, which will offer an order of magnitude improvement in size, speed, and ...

Optomechanical design of multiscale gigapixel digital camera
Applied Optics, 2013Recent developments in multiscale imaging systems have opened up the possibility for commercially viable wide-field gigapixel cameras. While multiscale design principles allow tremendous simplification of the optical design, they place increased emphasis on optomechanics and system level integration of the camera as a whole.

Towards Real-Time Gigapixel Video
2017In the previous chapter, we explained the design flow and the full hardware implementation of Panoptic, a real-time omnidirectional multi-camera system. Panoptic is a miniaturized system consisting of fifteen cell phone cameras providing 256 × 1024 resolution output.

A Multiscale, Wide Field, Gigapixel Camera
Imaging and Applied Optics, 2011Recent investigations into high pixel count imaging using multiscale optics have led to a novel optical design for a wide field, gigapixel camera. We review the mechanical design and optical performance of this imager.

Engineering a gigapixel monocentric multiscale camera
Optical Engineering, 2012Multiscale designs greatly simplify the large-scale optics needed to realize the resolution of a large aperture. Unlike most monolithic lens systems, multiscale cameras have interdependencies between the optics at various scales. To realize a successful multiscale design, the relationships between microcamera scale and overall camera scale parameters ...

Scalable Gigapixel Microscopy without Mechanical Scanning
Optics in the Life Sciences, 2013We report the implementation of a 1.6 gigapixel microscope with a maximum numerical aperture of 0.5 and a field-of-view of ~120 mm^2. Images of histology slides were acquired by using such a platform for demonstration.
