Long‐term shifts in pikeperch, Sander lucioperca, diet composition in a changing reservoir

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract As a significant piscivorous predator, the pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) plays a critical role in regulating aquatic ecosystems. Understanding its size‐related feeding behaviour is thus vital for assessing its impact. To evaluate its role in the ecosystem, stomach content analysis provides useful insights into predator–prey dynamics.

Gillnet colour affects catch efficiency in pearlspot (Etroplus suratensis) tropical estuary fishery

open access: yesAquaculture and Fisheries
Gillnets are one of the most commonly used fishing gears in both marine and inland waters. Different colour filament nettings are often used in gillnets. However, the effect of gillnet colour on catch efficiency is unclear for most fisheries.

Linking rivers, mixing faunas: How artificial connectivity between the Middle and Upper Paraná River basins shapes fish diversity in a tributary of the Itaipu Reservoir, Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract This work aimed to investigate the distribution and occurrence of fish species along the São Francisco Falso Braço Norte (SFFBN) River basin, a tributary of the Middle Paraná River basin now artificially connected to the Upper Paraná ecoregion, to evaluate how such connectivity may affect the biogeographic distribution and regional composition

Plasticity in the reproductive biology of Yellowstone cutthroat trout Oncorhynchus virginalis bouvieri in Yellowstone Lake following lake trout Salvelinus namaycush invasion

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Yellowstone cutthroat trout Oncorhynchus virginalis bouvieri in Yellowstone Lake are the focus of intensive conservation efforts due to the threat of predation by invasive lake trout Salvelinus namaycush. Suppression gillnetting has reduced the abundance of predatory lake trout, and the Yellowstone cutthroat trout population is recovering ...

The United States requires effective federal policy to reduce marine plastic pollution

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, 2019
The amount of plastic entering the ocean is expected to increase by an order of magnitude by 2025. Marine plastic pollution threatens biodiversity through entanglement, ingestion, and chemical exposure.

Studi Mengenai Proses Tertangkapnya Dan Tingkah Laku Ikan Terhadap Gillnet Millennium Di Perairan Bondet, Cirebon (Studies on Capture Process and Fish Behavior Towards Millennium Gillnet in Bondet Waters, Cirebon) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The millennium gillnet was recently adopted by Cirebon fishermen. Its use has been spread to other areas. Research on this type of gear is rare. The objectives of this research were: to investigate the effects of transparency on the fish behavior towards

Age and growth of the endemic groovebelly stingray (Dasyatis hypostigma), a heavily exploited batoid in the Brazilian Meridional Margin (21–34° S)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Life‐history data are often lacking for exploited elasmobranchs, jeopardizing proper management and conservation measures for this vulnerable group. Herein, we provided age and growth estimates for the groovebelly stingray (Dasyatis hypostigma), a medium‐sized, heavily exploited batoid endemic to the southwestern Atlantic Ocean.

Return migration to fresh water and overwintering locations used by sympatric anadromous populations of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) and Dolly Varden (Salvelinus malma malma)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Anadromous Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) and northern form Dolly Varden (Salvelinus malma malma) are highly valued by Indigenous communities in northern Canada. Rapid, ongoing environmental changes are affecting populations of both of these iteroparous species, and understanding variability in life‐history tactics is essential for ...
