Use of Caffeine and Inducing Parturition with Dual Administration of Prostaglandin F2α in Gilts and Its Effect on Neonatal Vitality and Performance at Birth

open access: yesAnimals
One of the principal problems in swine production is neonatal mortality, especially in primiparous sows. Caffeine has been shown to be an efficacious neonatal stimulant that reduces mortality while improving key metabolic indicators associated with ...

The Influence of the Preparation Primix Bionorm K on the Digestibility of the Nutrients in the Fodders for Young Pigs

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
The study was carried out in order to determine nutrient digestibility in breed gilts under the influence of the supplementation of the mixed fodder with the preparation pro-prebiotic Primix Bionorm K at the level of 0.15, 0.30, and 0.45 kg/t.

The Use of Vagina–Cervix Length Measurement in Evaluation of Future Reproductive Performance of Sows: A Preliminary Study under Commercial Conditions

open access: yesAnimals, 2019
The length of the distal part of the internal reproductive tract seems to be related to the length and capacity of uterine horns, which is the most important anatomical property influencing litter size in sows.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Estimates of the continuous time Cox-Ingersoll-Ross term structure model: further results for the UK gilt-edged market

open access: yes, 2001
Estimates are made of multi-factor versions of the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross model of the term structure of interest rates using the Kalman filter. Estimates are obtained using weekly UK Gilt-edged market data over the period 1982-1997.

Digestible lysine levels in diets for pigs from 24 to 50 kg under sanitary segregation

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2012
This study evaluated the relationship between digestible lysine and metabolizable energy for barrow and gilts from 24 to 50 kg. Performance, digestibility and blood profile were studied.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
