A Comparative Study of Directed Energy Deposition‐Arc and Casting: Enhancing Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Hot‐Work Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The study investigates the influence of DED‐Arc/M versus casting on the microstructure and material properties of X40CrMoV5‐1 (AISI H13) hot‐work tool steel. DED‐Arc/M yields finer microstructures, superior mechanical strength, and ductility, but slightly reduced thermal conductivity.

Generalizing the S-Gini Family: Some Properties [PDF]

open access: yes
In the literature there are a number of generalizations of the Gini coefficient which inherit most of its appealing properties. These families allow the incorporation of different value judgments and all of them are more sensitive to transfers among the ...

Phenomenological Prediction of Defect Formation in Continuous Casting of Steel Utilizing Fundamental Modeling and Machine Learning

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
In this article, decision tree classifiers are developed to predict defects in continuous casting of steel utilizing caster data from SSAB Raahe Works (Finland). Phenomenological quality criteria extracted from applicable process measurements and results from solidification and heat transfer simulations are utilized in prediction.

On Dagum’s Decomposition of the Gini Coefficient [PDF]

open access: yes
To measure the contributions to inequality from population subgroups, the Gini coefficient is often decomposed into inequality within groups, inequality between groups and a residual term arising from the overlapping of income distributions from ...

Understanding Inequality in the UK: What Can We Learn from the Deaton Review?

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract This article provides a critical view of the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) Deaton Review, a landmark initiative that brings together more than ninety papers examining inequality in the UK from multiple dimensions. The Review makes an invaluable contribution by providing comprehensive and up‐to‐date analyses of the levels of inequality and

Diversity Tokenism

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using data from over 4,000 Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests across 600 U.S. counties from 2014 to 2021, we examine how BLM activism shapes corporate diversity at different organizational levels. We develop an approach integrating OpenAI's GPT‐4 with Chain‐of‐Thought prompting to classify race and ethnicity.

Age, SES, and Health: A Population Level Analysis of Health Inequalities over the Life Course [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper tests two competing hypotheses on the relationship between age, SES, and health inequality at the cohort/population level. The accumulation hypothesis predicts that levels of SES- based health inequality and consequently overall health ...
