Ecological drivers and phylogenetic patterns of leaf minimum conductance variability in vascular plants

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Stomatal closure prevents significant water losses during drought events. Yet, leaves are not perfectly hermetic and dehydration ensues through residual water losses, known as minimum conductance (gmin), which is highly relevant since it informs on the water depletion dynamics under stress.

Rooting Conifer Genetic Research: An Accessible and Efficient Transformation System

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Conifers serve as the cornerstone of global forest ecosystems, yet their genetic transformation faces notorious challenges. To overcome the intrinsic resistance of conifer adventitious roots to Agrobacterium/Rhizobium‐mediated transformation, we systematically and iteratively engineered the binary vector by introducing chimeric Ri plasmid ...

The Food Plants and Distribution of the American Plum Borer (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The North American geographical and host plant distributions for the American plnm borer, Euzophera semifuneralis, are reported. Literature and curatorial surveys found the plum borer to be present in 34 states in the U. S.

Evolutionary Conserved and Divergent Responses to Copper Zinc Superoxide Dismutase Inhibition in Plants

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT After an initial evolution in a reducing environment, life got successively challenged by reactive oxygen species (ROS), especially during the great oxidation event (GOE) that followed the development of photosynthesis. Therefore, ROS are deeply intertwined into the physiological, morphological and transcriptional responses of most present‐day

Phytotherapy in zoo animals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Phytotherapy is one of the oldest medical disciplines and was traditionally based on empiricism (Reichling et al., 2008). Nowadays, its use as an additional integral component of evidence based medicine is well accepted in human medicine (Finkelmann ...

Circadian regulation of reproduction and neoblast cell division in the catenulid flatworm Stenostomum virginianum (Platyhelminthes)

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
The circadian clock and melatonin coordinate homeostasis in many animals, yet their influence on reproduction and neoblast proliferation has only been shown in triclads. This study demonstrates that the early‐branching catenulid Stenostomum virginianum contains photoreceptive refractile bodies, synthesizes endogenous melatonin, and that exogenous ...

Influence of Air Drying, Freeze Drying and Oven Drying on the Biflavone Content in Yellow Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba L.) Leaves

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Drying herbs is a crucial method for stabilizing and preserving their essential properties and bioactive compounds. Although freeze drying is the preferred method for most herbs, it is expensive due to high energy consumption and operating costs ...
