Judging the Spatial Relevance of Documents for GIR [PDF]
, 2006 Geographic Information Retrieval (GIR) is concerned with the retrieval of documents based on both thematic and geographic content. An important issue in GIR, as for all IR, is relevance. In this paper we argue that spatial relevance should be considered independently from thematic relevance, and propose an initial scheme.

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite
Advanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials
Advanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

ENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.Table of Contents The TiO2@IrO2 core–shell architecture ensures high electronic conductivity even at a low iridium content of 10 wt%. The resulting catalyst layer shows significantly higher iridium utilization than a commercial reference, leading to improved PEMWE single‐cell performance at low iridium loading.
