Dust-Induced Destabilization of Glacial Climates [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
The climate record preserved in polar glaciers, mountain glaciers, and widespread cave deposits shows repeated occurrence of abrupt global transitions between cold/dry stadial and warm/wet interstadial states during glacial periods. These abrupt transitions occur on millennial time scale and in the absence of any known global-scale forcing.

The impact of climate change on the structure of Pleistocene mammoth steppe food webs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Species interactions shape predator-prey networks, impacting community structure and, potentially, ecological dynamics. It is likely that global climatic perturbations that occur over long periods of time have a significant impact on species interactions patterns.

Boulder Bands on Lobate Debris Aprons: Does Spatial Clustering Reveal Accumulation History for Martian Glaciations? [PDF]

open access: yes
Glacial landforms such as lobate debris aprons (LDA) and Concentric Crater Fill (CCF) are the dominant debris-covered glacial landforms on Mars. These landforms represent a volumetrically significant component of the Amazonian water ice budget, however ...

Mechanical Behavior and Microstructural Changes Associated with Tensile Deformation above the Martensite Start Temperature during Quenching and Subsequent Partitioning of a Low‐Alloy 37SiB6 Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new experimental setup, incorporating digital image correlation and infrared thermography in combination with inductive‐conductive heating for precise temperature control, is used to analyze the mechanical behavior and microstructural changes of sheet metal under complex thermomechanical test conditions that represent quench and partitioning ...

Contrasting Trends of Population Size Change for Two Eurasian Owlet Species—Athene brama and Glaucidium radiatum From South Asia Over the Late Quaternary

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2020
Climatic oscillations over the Quaternary have had a lasting impact on species’ distribution, evolutionary history, and genetic composition. Many species show dramatic population size changes coinciding with the last glacial period.

Simulating atmospheric d13CO2 during the last 740,000 years: Model-based estimates in the context of ice core measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The ratio of the stable carbon isotopes of atmospheric CO2 (δ 13 CO2 ) contains valuable information on the processes which are operating on the global carbon cycle. However current δ 13 CO2 ice core records are still limited in both resolution,

Reconciling diverse lacustrine and terrestrial system response to penultimate deglacial warming in southern Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Unlike the most recent deglaciation, the regional expression of climate changes during the penultimate deglaciation remains understudied, even though it led into a period of excess warmth with estimates of global average temperature 1–2 °C, and sea level

Efficient and Scalable Radiative Cooling for Photovoltaics Using Solution‐Processable and Solar‐Transparent Mesoporous Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graded refractive index (GRI) structures are prepared from the layer‐by‐layer spray coating of the mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticles, showing high solar transparency and thermal emissivity. Under outdoor conditions, after 50 days, the GRI‐coated photovoltaics show on average 6.65 ± 1.48 °C lower than that of the non‐coated references, maintaining 80.9 ± 8 ...

Tri-dimensional Model of the Radovna Glacier from the Last Glacial Period

open access: yesGeologija, 2016
The Radovna River Valley is located in the northwest of Slovenia, in the Julian Alps, and bounded by two plateaus – Pokljuka in the south and Mežakla in the north.

The uplift of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau and glacial oscillations triggered the diversification of Tetraogallus (Galliformes, Phasianidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
The Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) plays an important role in avian diversification. To reveal the relationship between the QTP uplift and avian diversification since the Late Cenozoic, here, we analyzed the phylogenetic relationship and biogeographical ...
